A previously unreported triad of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, and paraganglioma: random coincidence or hidden genetic etiology-a case report.

BACKGROUND: Neoplasms arising simultaneously from the thyroid, parathyroid, and paraganglionic tissues are exceptionally rare. To our knowledge, no previous case has documented the synchronous occurrence of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, and cervical paraganglioma. This report highlights the diagnostic and embryologic significance of this rare triad. CASE PRESENTATION: A 79-year-old South Asian woman presented with a slowly progressive anterior neck swelling. Imaging showed a mass in the left thyroid lobe with vascular displacement. Total thyroidectomy with neck

Collision tumor of a primary colonic adenocarcinoma and a pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Collison tumors are rare entities characterized by the juxtaposition of two histological distinct neoplastic populations in the same organ without intermixture of the different malignant components. Due to their infrequency, especially in the digestive tract, limited prior cases have been reported and the pathogenesis, biological behavior and treatment remain controversial. We present the case of a 79-year-old woman with a solid pancreatic mass and a rectosigmoid wall thickening, accompanied by multiple hepatic lesions. These findings suggested a pancreatic neoplasm with liver metastasis and a

[A Case Report of Adenomyoepithelioma Coexisting with Apocrine Carcinoma in Contralateral Breasts].

Adenomyoepithelioma(AME)of the breast is a rare condition, and comorbidity with carcinoma is even more unusual. Herein, we report a case of both AME and apocrine carcinoma in different breasts of a single patient. A 48-year-old woman presented to our clinic with a right breast tumor. Fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC)was indeterminate and suspicious for both papilloma and non-invasive ductal carcinoma, but excisional biopsy indicated an AME. Immuno-histochemical staining showed EMA(+), AE1/3(+), and CK7(+)mammary duct cells and αSMA(+), CK5/6(+), and p63(+) myoepithelial cells. Six months l

A pancancer analysis of the clinical and genomic characteristics of multiple primary cancers.

Multiple primary cancer (MPC) denotes individuals with two or more malignant tumors occurring simultaneously or successively. Herein, a total of 11,000 pancancer patients in TCGA database (1993-2013) were divided into MPC or non-MPC groups based on their history of other malignant tumors. The incidence of MPC has risen to 8.5-13.1% since 2000. Elderly individuals, males, early-stage cancer patients, and African Americans and Caucasians are identified as independent risk factors (p < 0.0001). Non-MPC patients exhibit significantly longer overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) (p

Synchronous Seminoma of Testis and Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Rare Case Report.

Background and Objectives: Seminoma is the most common solid malignant tumour in young men. Clear-cell kidney carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the genitourinary tract. However, the synchronous occurrence of both of these tumours is rare. Case presentation: We present the case of a 36-year-old patient who presented to a medical facility at the end of 2019 with an enlarged right testicle. A unilateral orchofuniculectomy was performed, and a mass measuring 30 cm was removed. During histological examination, testicular seminoma pT2, R0, was diagnosed. An abdominal computed tomography (CT

Hepatosplenic lymphoma and visceral mast cell tumor in the liver of a dog with synchronous and multiple primary tumors.

An 11-year-old spayed female American Cocker Spaniel was presented with a 4-week history of anorexia and a 1-week history of abdominal distension. Clinicopathologic and imaging abnormalities included intra-abdominal hemorrhage, granular lymphocytes (GLs) in abdominal fluid smears, a splenic mass, and hepatomegaly with diffuse multiple hypoechogenic nodules. Based on the cytologic, histologic, and immunohistochemical evaluation of the spleen and liver, the diagnosis was hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL) of GLs. Postoperatively, the dog was maintained in good condition with chemotherapy (ACN

A left-sided cystic pancreatic incidentaloma with sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: The synchronous colorectal malignancy is well described in the literature but combination of pancreatic incidentaloma with sigmoid cancer has not been well described and the association has not been described in syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old man from the Indian subcontinent with a history of abdominal pain with loss of appetite, and with a history of bleeding per rectum and altered bowel habits presented to our hospital. An abdominal examination revealed a palpable mass in the region of his epigastrium and left hypochondrium, and a rectal examination was normal. A wor

Combined laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection and robotic-assisted prostatectomy for synchronous double cancer of the rectum and the prostate.

Here we report a combined laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection and robotic-assisted prostatectomy. A 74-year-old man was diagnosed with T4b low rectal and prostate cancer. The operation was performed after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for the rectal cancer. The procedure used eight ports in total, five for laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection and six for robotic-assisted prostatectomy. First, laparoscopic total mesorectal excision including division of the inferior mesenteric artery was performed, and then, robotic dissection of the prostate was performed. The en bloc specimen was removed th

Synchronous parotid and nasopharyngeal Warthin tumor.

BACKGROUND: Warthin tumor is the second most common benign salivary gland neoplasm after pleomorphic adenoma. Warthin tumors occur almost exclusively in the parotid gland and periparotid lymph nodes, extraparotid localization is rare. METHODS AND RESULTS: We describe a case of a patient presenting with a synchronous unilateral parotid gland and nasopharyngeal Warthin tumor. CONCLUSION: We propose that, although this occurrence of a synchronous parotid gland and nasopharyngeal Warthin tumor may be coincidental, it is more likely to be an effect of a systemic factor.

Synchronous carcinosarcoma of the lower ureter and renal pelvis with heterologous chondrosarcomatous elements: An unusual case report.

Carcinosarcoma of the ureter is a rare biphasic neoplasm, with distinct malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. The mesenchymal component may show heterologous chondrosarcomatous or osteosarcomatous elements. To the best of our knowledge, there have been only 13 cases reported in the literature. Synchronous malignancy in the renal pelvis is even rarer and this is the first case of synchronous carcinosarcoma of the ureter and renal pelvis to be reported in English literature, which revealed heterologous chondrosarcomatous areas at both sites.

A case of Muir-Torre syndrome with multiple cancers of bilateral eyelids and breast.

We report a case of Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) with a very rare combination of cancers, involving bilateral eyelid cancers and breast cancer. A 71-year-old female with a history of breast cancer from 18 years prior presented with bilateral eyelid tumors. One of her siblings had lung cancer, and another had pancreatic cancer. She underwent excisional biopsy of the eyelid tumors and histopathology revealed sebaceous carcinoma of the right eyelid and basal cell carcinoma of the left. She was diagnosed with MTS: a skin cancer associated with visceral malignancy. Immunohistochemical tests for mutS h

A case of angiomyolipoma of the spermatic cord and testicle.

Angiomyolipomas (AML) are mesenchymal tumors of the kidney consisting of varying proportions of vascular, immature smooth muscle and mature fat cells. A rare case of testicular AML is described. A 53 year old male with a history of congenital motor defects, mental retardation, and hypertension, presented to the emergency room with sudden onset, severe left testicular pain. Scrotal sonography demonstrated an hypoechoic mass in the patient's left testicle. The patient was offered and underwent a trans-inguinal exploration of the left testicle which ended in a left inguinal orchiectomy. Pathologi

Role of the otolaryngologist in the treatment of struma ovarii.

Struma ovarii, a rare germ cell tumor of the ovary composed of >50% thyroid tissue, is traditionally managed by gynecologic surgeons. Although struma ovarii is typically cured by simple excision, otolaryngology-head and neck surgeons may play a critical role in caring for these patients. In this article, we present two cases of struma ovarii and discuss the role of the otolaryngologist.

Synchronous abdominal and thoracic solitary fibrous tumour: a case report.

Solitary fibrous tumours (SFT), described for the first time by Klemperer and Rabin in 1931, are uncommon mesenchymal tumours that have been known to mainly affect the pleura and mediastinum. More recently, solitary fibrous tumours affecting other anatomical sites are being increasingly reported. Clinically, these tumours are asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally. Diagnosis is established at pathology by positive staining for CD34. Their prognosis depends on complete surgical resection and lack of histological signs of malignancy. We report here the case of a 63-year-old woman with doub

Oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal myxoma: case report and literature review.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the features of an oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal myxoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Case report of a 34-year-old patient operated upon for a dual-location tumour, and review of the literature. RESULTS: The myxoma is a rare tumour. Various head and neck locations have been described, but not (to our knowledge) a tumour in both the oropharynx and the hypopharynx. Multiple synchronous locations must be searched for, particularly regarding cardiac myxoma. CONCLUSION: The myxoma is a rare, benign tumour, even rarer in the head and neck. Surgical treatment must be complete
