A total of 86 abscesses (45 and 41) abscesses of sheep and goats, respectively) were examined for their causal agents; 44 of these abscesses were located subcutaneously, and the remaining 42 were in lungs, livers, intestines, and udders. A total of 23 different types of microorganisms were isolated from 78 abscesses; bacteria were not detected in the remaining eight abscesses. Microorganisms isolated were: species of the genera Corynebacterium, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus and Pasteurella, Escherichia coli, and other gram-negative rods. Peptostreptococcus anaerobius and Eubacterium tortuo

Ovine Respiratory Complex (ORC) is a major cause of lamb mortality in intensive and semi-intensive sheep production systems. Its multifactor … during 2022-2023 were incorporated into the analysis. A high herd-level prevalence was detected for Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Bibersteinia trehalosi, and Mesomycoplasma ovipneumoniae, whereas Histophilus somni, Orf virus, and parainfluenza virus type 3 showed intermediate prevalence. No significant seasonal differences were observed in pathogen pre …

Pneumonia caused by the bacterial pathogens discussed in this article is the most significant cause of morbidity and mortality of the BRDC. Most of these infectious bacteria are not capable of inducing significant disease without the presence of other predisposing environmental factors, physiologic stressors, or concurrent infections. Mannheimia haemolytica is the most common and serious of these bacterial agents and is therefore also the most highly characterized. There are other important bacterial pathogens of BRD, such as Pasteurella multocida, Histophulus somni, and Mycoplasma bovis. Mixe…

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae was cultured from 22 lung samples from four herds. Pasteurella multocida was cultured from 55 lung samples in eight herds. No specific pattern with respect to the causal pathogens was found. In conclusion, no single infectious cause of pleuritis was found. Macrolides are antibiotics with high intracellular concentrations. They have a bacteriostatic activity but are also bactericides for concentrations five times greater than the minimal inhibitory concentration, concentrations in which they reach in the respiratory tract. They are usually active on Streptococcus, Neisseria, Moraxella catarrhalis, Listeria monocytogenes, Bordetella pertussis, Pasteurella multocida, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila and Helicobacter pylori. They have few secondary effects, some in relation with drug interactions. Their main indications are b…

A porcine Pasteurella multocida (P. m.) infection model was established to study the spatial distribution of cytokine mRNA-expressing cells in lung tissue during acute pneumonia. The mRNA detection was performed by non-radioactive, formamide-free in situ hybridization (ISH) using oligonucleotides against the porcine interleukins (IL): IL-1 beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, TNF alpha and TGF beta. Cytokine mRNA-expressing macrophages were demonstrated by a double staining procedure combining immunohistochemistry (IH) using the primary antibody 2G6 with IL-1 beta, IL-6 and TGF beta ISH. With the exc…

Respiratory diseases are second only to gastroenteric diseases in importance in rabbits. Pasteurellosis is the primary respiratory disease affecting domestic rabbits, but other bacteria (e.g., Bordetella broniseptica and Staphylococcus spp) are significant opportunistic pathogens. The primary manifestations are upper respiratory disease (e.g., rhinitis, sinusitis, conjunctivitis, and dacryocystitis). Various antimicrobials are effective for treatment.

Malignant rabbit fibroma virus (MV) causes a syndrome that consists of disseminated malignant tumors and immunosuppression complicated by severe Pasteurella multocida infection and death. Tissues from rabbits given MV and rabbit myxoma virus were examined by direct immunofluorescence with the use of antibody against virus antigens. Primary and metastatic tumors caused by MV and rabbit myxoma virus were composed of soft tissue cells containing virus antigens. Skin appendages and epidermis overlying the respective tumors showed scant MV but abundant myxoma virus antigen. Both viruses were presen…

Bacterial infections caused by Gram-negative pathogens represent a growing burden for public health worldwide. Despite the urgent need for n … athogens through directly binding to the R300, D363, and H265 sites, particularly for the notorious Pasteurella multocida. These findings highlight that usage of melatonin is a feasible and alternative therapy to tackle the increasing threat of Gram-negative pathogen infections via disrupting metabolic flux of bacteria.

The technology of the production of dried live vaccine against Pasteurella infection of fowl from Pasteur's 2nd avirulent strain, strains AB and K, has been developed. Experimental rabbits provide evidence for translational research regarding the pathogenies or treatment of human diseases. We developed a novel method for regenerating the middle ear mucosa using autologous cultured nasal mucosal epithelial cell sheets, and evaluated the wound healing process in the middle ear mucosa of experimental rabbits. Nonetheless, vigilant microbiological monitoring of experimental animals is essential to effectively prevent a decline in their health conditions, which may affect the research results. We experimented with contamination of Pasteurella multocida in non-spe…

Previous work has demonstrated that intravenous inoculation of rabbits with various microorganisms induces complex time-dependent alterations in sleep as well as other pathophysiological effects typically associated with infectious disease. To evaluate the effects of bacterial challenge that more closely resembles naturally developing disease, we inoculated rabbits with Pasteurella multocida, a common pathogen of this species, using routes of administration that mimic normal routes of exposure. Biphasic sleep alterations characterized initially by enhanced slow-wave sleep and later by decrease…

Cats and dogs make up an essential part of the household for families in the United States. Close contact with pets can carry a risk of potential infectious disease transmission. B. bronchiseptica is a rare bacterial pathogen in humans that can cause disease in immunocompromised individuals. Interpreting the significance of
