BACKGROUND: Serous retinal and retinal pigment epithelial detachments resembling central serous chorioretinopathy developed in three patients who had paraproteinemias.
METHODS: The patients in this study were examined at two institutions, and their charts, photographs, and fluorescein angiograms were reviewed by the authors. Two patients had cryoglobulinemia and one had lgA, lgM benign gammopathy.

PURPOSE: Applied pre- and postoperative corneal topography outcomes with visual acuities were evaluated to determine the surgical results in pterygium therapy.
METHODS: The study group consisted of 30 eyes of 26 patients with primary and recurrent pterygium. Mean patient age was 52.26+/-11.50 years (range: 27 to 68 years). Pre- and postoperative visual acuity and comeal topography were evaluated for each case. Statistical analysis was performed using the repeated-measure test.
RESULTS: The mean uncorrected visual acuity was 0.41+/-0.30 preoperatively and 0.63+/-0.26 postoperatively (P<.001).

PURPOSE: To present a case of successful laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) performed on a patient with residual hyperopic astigmatism and symptomatic anisometropia after previous epikeratoplasty (epikeratophakia).
METHODS: LASIK was used successfully to treat hyperopic astigmatism after regression of epikeratophakia performed 16 years earlier.
RESULTS: Visual acuity improved to 20/30 without correction, and best-corrected visual acuity was 20/25 at the 3-month postoperative visit.
CONCLUSIONS: LASIK can be used successfully as an alternative treatment to correct residual refractive error

The case of a 40-year-old patient who underwent an unsuccessful cadaver kidney transplantation and was treated with ethambutol and isoniazid is reported. A bilateral retrobulbar neuropathy with an unusual central bitemporal hemianopic scotoma was found. Ethambutol was stopped and only small improvement of the visual acuity followed. Isoniazid was discontinued later, followed by a dramatic improvement in the visual acuity. The hazards of optic nerve toxicity due to ethambutol are known. We emphasize the potential danger in the use of ethambutol and isoniazid.
