We describe a new case of Ermine phenotype. The patient had the striking pattern of skin and hair involvement that characterize the condition, global developmental delay, growth retardation, microcephaly, and bilateral hearing loss. Results of extensive workup for several other neurologic, metabolic, mitochondrial, genetic and chromosomal conditions were normal. Melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) is a highly polymorphic gene. The variety of the variants is dependent on the ethnic background of the individual. Presented is the case of a man who had localized depigmentation after local injection of triamcinolone diacetate. Search of the literature indicates that this is a rare complication of such therapy. Localized depigmentation may have important cultural implications for dark-skinned patients. There is some experimental evidence that less-potent and shorter-acting steroid preparations have a lower likelihood for depigmenting side effects, and such agents may be more appropriate when injecting subcutaneous structures to prevent this complication.

A 70-year-old patient with a chronic cutaneous ulcer treated by minocycline hydrochloride developed hyperpigmentation of the forearms. Biopsy material was studied by light microscopy, electron microscopy and X-ray energy spectroscopy. Hypopigmentation disorders in children can be due to a wide variety of congenital and acquired diseases. A clinical approach to hypopigmentation disorders based on the typical age of onset and the extent of lesions is proposed. The disorders are categorized into onset in early and later childhood, and in each category they are subdivided into localized and generalized pigmentary disorders. BACKGROUND: Pigmented bullous pemphigoid has many clinical manifestations. We report a pigmented erythematous form with disseminated bullae.
CASE REPORT: A 70-year-old woman with a history of breast adenocarcinoma developed an eruption of pigmented macules on the trunk and members of 72 hour duration. At five days, there was an eruption of tight bullae. The diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid was retained because of the association of infraepidermic bullae, linear deposits of C3 along the basal membrane and the presence of the 180 kDa minor bullous pemphigoid antigen on immunoblotting.

The neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinoses (Batten-Vogt syndrome) are a group of at least four closely related entities that are characterized by the accumulation of autofluorescent lipopigments in neural, visceral, and somatic tissues. The ophthalmic pathology of this syndrome has been investigated less extensively than other tissues and organs. In this report, we present the postmortem ocular findings, including light, fluorescence, and electron microscopy, from a child with the Jansky-Bielschowsky form of this syndrome.

Neuromelanin (NM) is a dark-coloured pigment produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the human substantia nigra (SN). The function of NM within the pigmented neurons is unknown but other melanins are believed to play a protective role via attenuation of free radical damage. Sea-blue histiocytes (SBH) and Gaucher-like cells are macrophages containing a pigment related to or identical with ceroid or lipofuscin. While an occasional cell may be found in the normal bone marrow, large numbers of SBH can be observed in various conditions mainly associated with increased cellular breakdown or with disturbances of lipoid metabolism.
