INTRODUCTION: Professional identity formation (PIF) research in medical education has largely examined micro-level dilemmas within relatively stable training environments. Less is known about how macro-social crises destabilizing the profession's public legitimacy shape early PIF. This study explored how first-year medical students narrated the impact of the 2024-2025 doctor-government conflict in South Korea on their professional identity development, using Transformative Learning Theory (TLT) as an interpretive lens.
METHODS: We conducted a theory-informed qualitative study using written re

BACKGROUND: Impostor phenomenon (IP) is a common experience among healthcare professionals, characterised by persistent feelings of inadequacy, fear of being exposed as a fraud, and self-doubt, despite external evidence of competence. In healthcare simulation, where educators frequently transition between roles and responsibilities, little is known about how simulation educators experience and navigate IP throughout their careers. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of IP among healthcare simulation educators.
METHODS: The study builds on our earlier work in which simulation educ

INTRODUCTION: In international comparison, the German healthcare system lags in digital transformation behind. This has been attributed to insufficient involvement of professional groups, limited availability and use of specific digital tools, inadequate development of digital literacy, as well as various structural factors. The following focuses on the influence of motivation on digital transformation within the German healthcare system.
METHOD: Based on a secondary data analysis of 249 datasets derived from a questionnaire survey assessing the subjective perception of digital competencies a

The commitment to give equal priority to mental and physical health (parity of esteem) guides the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Future Nurse Standards of Proficiency - a generic set of standards for nurse education. However, a recent national survey revealed that nursing students reported that the specific communication skills needed to address mental health problems are missing from practice assessments. This article reviews the current use of practice assessment documentation in which communication and relationship management skills are interpreted as 'professional values' rather than expl

Intensive care medicine symbolizes a form of medicine that seeks to prevent or overcome illness and life-threatening situations in order to enable a life that is acceptable to the patient. Despite the curative goal, dying and death are unavoidable. For ethically founded intensive care medicine, treatment goals must be agreed upon. The use of all resources is justified by their alignment with these goals and their desire for the patient. The indication and patient consent must be continually reviewed. If the goals are no longer achievable or desired by the patient, dying must be permitted. Then

In this grounded theory study, the authors analyze interviews and participant observation data related to palliative cancer nursing in hospitals. Striving for Emotional Survival emerged as the pattern of behavior through which nurses deal with their main concern, the risk of being emotionally overloaded by their work. It involved three main strategies: Emotional Shielding through Professional Shielding or Cold Shielding; Emotional Processing through Chatting, Confirmation Seeking, Self-Reflecting, or Ruminating; and Emotional Postponing through Storing or Stashing. Emotional Competence is a pr

The sociological study conducted in the Gorod Polevskoy, Sverdlovsk Region, has established that the prevalence of maladaptation was 22.3% in children after entering the first form. The major risk factors affecting the severity of an adaptive process are a history of diseases before going to school, nonattendance of organized pediatric collective bodies, disregarding the day regimen and a poor organization of a workplace, bad parental hygienic knowledge. Efforts aimed at preparing parents to organize a child's life in the first form are insufficient and their own steps are inadequate. The pare

INTRODUCTION: Variation in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy assessment for asthma and dysfunctional breathing (DB) across NHS services creates inconsistency in clinical reasoning, workforce development, and data harmonization. We aimed to design and implement a standardized, evidence-informed assessment package to support physiotherapists working with children and young people (CYP) with asthma and DB.
METHODS: Evidence from a previously conducted structured scoping review (PROSPERO ID: 112227) informed key assessment domains. A national collaborative of specialist pediatric respiratory ph

OBJECTIVES: This study explores therapists' perspectives on experiential learning, competencies, and training in ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT), a form of psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT). We aim to understand how therapists' personal psychedelic experiences influence their self-perceived competency and therapeutic relationships regarding KAT.
METHODS: Licensed therapists from Numinus Wellness clinics in Canada and the USA who were trained in KAT were invited to participate in the study. Participation included a 60-90-minute semi-structured interview conducted remotely via secure videoconf

The profession of genetic counselling is developing in Europe in response to the increased need for genetic healthcare. Standards of education and professional practice are needed to ensure that patients are provided with genetic counselling of an appropriate quality. However, such standards need to be relevant to practitioners in many different national and healthcare settings. In order to develop appropriate standards and a code of practice to guide professionals in Europe, we formed a community of practice that includes genetic nurses and counsellors, plus other interested health profession

BACKGROUND: Unintended pregnancy (UP) is highly prevalent among individuals with multiple social and/or (mental) health challenges. Despite this, pregnancy intentions and contraceptive options are rarely addressed in routine social and public healthcare. To bridge this gap, the Dutch Not Pregnant Now program integrates person-centered counseling on pregnancy intentions and contraceptive options into a variety of social and preventive public health services that people already access, such as social care, mental health and youth care, and public health programs. Since professionals providing th

Professional status in healthcare is determined not only by educational preparation or statutory scope of practice, but also by how a profession functions within reimbursement systems, labor markets, and healthcare delivery. This article applies a health economics framework to evaluate the current professional status of audiology in the United States using observable economic indicators rather than aspirational goals or regulatory intent. The field of interprofessional education provides educational preparedness for collaborative work. In this cross-cutting edge paper, we argue that aligning educational offerings to diverse current and future configurations of collaborative work is both a goal and a challenge for educators. To continue to move towards this goal, we draw from recent debates in the fields of organizational studies and sociology of professions. In response to the historical focus on protective professionalism, theorists in the intersections of those two fields have begun to debate the concept of 'connective profes

Accreditation and ethical standards across the professions of counseling, marriage and family therapy (MFT), psychology, and social work include spirituality and/or religion (S/R) as core areas of multicultural diversity that will ideally be addressed in training and clinical practice. However, many graduate programs face logistic challenges for equipping students with basic attitudes, knowledge, and skills to attend to patients' S/R. The purpose of this study was to explore strategies for infusing content related to spiritual and religious competencies into mental health graduate coursework i

Competency-Based Health Professions Education (CBHPE) has transformed health professions training by emphasizing demonstrated competence over time-based progression. Yet the clinical learning environment (CLE), the social, cultural, and organizational ecosystem in which learning occurs, has not evolved in parallel. Persistent hierarchies, workload pressures, and inadequate faculty development limit CBHPE's full potential. Thus, the authors sought to identify priorities for CLE reform. A structured consensus process was conducted at the International Competency-Based Education Collaborators Sum

PURPOSE: Raising a child with Down syndrome (DS) brings unique challenges to parents' psychological functioning. Extensive quantitative research has shown that these parents tend to experience higher levels of parental stress and lower well-being. However, a more in-depth and balanced insight is essential to fully grasp the complexity of parenting a child with DS. To address this gap, this study uses a qualitative approach to explore the experiences and behaviors of parents raising a child with DS.
DESIGN AND METHODS: By adopting the Self-Determination Theory as a comprehensive theoretical fr
