Case Report: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome-associated blood pressure fluctuations combined with simultaneous central retinal vein and artery occlusion.

BACKGROUND: Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) are serious eye blood vessel problems usually linked to heart health issues. In this case study, a patient with a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) but no traditional thrombotic or atherosclerotic risk factors experienced a rare co-occurrence of CRVO and CRAO. CASE PRESENTATION: A formerly healthy 42-year-old man came with dark shadows in his right eye and acute-onset blurred vision. A thorough ophthalmic exam verified simultaneous CRVO and CRAO. Later, polysomnography showed moder…

Bilateral Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Secondary to Leukostasis in the Setting of Diffuse Large-B Cell Lymphoma: Case Report.

A woman in her 50's was diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) after presenting to hospital in a critical condition, characterised by marked hyperleukocytosis (white cell count 290 x109/L). She subsequently developed painless blurred vision bilaterally, and was diagnosed with bilateral central retinal vein occlusion secondary to leukostasis. She was managed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma R-CHOEP14 (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, etoposide, prednisolone) immunochemotherapy, with her ocular signs and symptoms improving following treatment. Optical coherence tomography…

Case Report: Recurrent retinal vein occlusion as the first clinical manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus in a male patient.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, autoimmune disease characterized by widespread clinical manifestations and immunological disorders. A myriad of ocular manifestations can be seen in patients with SLE. The most vision-threatening complication is vaso-occlusive retinopathy including retinal vein occlusion (RVO). RVO associated with SLE is well described in the literature and its association with antiphospholipid antibodies is recognized. However, RVO as the initial manifestation of SLE is scarcely reported. Herein, we report the first case of recurrent RVO as the revealing manife…

Bilateral Central Retinal Vein Occlusion in a 40-Year-Old Man with Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pneumonia.

BACKGROUND COVID-19 is the disease caused by the novel virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The spectrum of disease seen in patients with COVID-19 infection ranges from asymptomatic or mild symptoms to severe pneumonia and even acute respiratory distress syndrome, which often requires invasive ventilation and intensive care. COVID-19-associated infection can be catastrophic, leading to both arterial and venous occlusion, microinfarcts, and multiorgan failure, although retinal vein occlusion has not yet been reported. CASE REPORT We present the case of a 40-year-…

Retrospective analyses of optical coherence tomography in recurrent macular edema following intravitreal therapy in patients with retinal vein occlusion.

BACKGROUND: Optical coherence tomography has focused mainly on central subfield thickness to quantify macular edema in central and branch retinal vein occlusion. We examined macular fields other than the central subfield to determine if they are possibly independent indicators of recurrent macular edema. METHODS: Single center, retrospective, consecutive case study of patients with recurrent macular edema secondary to either central or branch retinal vein occlusion. Thickness estimates of serial domain optical coherence tomography macular fields were obtained at the time of recurrent macular …

A meta-analysis of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor remedy for macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion.

BACKGROUND: Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) associates with severe vision outcome and no proven beneficial treatment. Our meta-analysis intended to appraise the efficacy and safety of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents in macular edema (ME) following CRVO. METHODS: Data were collected and analyzed by Review Manager 5.2.1. We employed a random-effects model to eliminate between-study heterogeneity. Nfs (called fail-safe number) was calculated to evaluate the publication bias. RESULTS: We included 5 trials consisting 323 cases and 281 controls. Primary outcomes sh…
