OBJECTIVE: To report a case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst, an anomaly during the development of the primitive anterior intestine from which the bronchi and lungs are developed.
METHODS/RESULTS: A 38-year-old male presented with left lumbar pain. Patient evaluation disclosed a left adrenal polycystic mass which was removed by surgery. Pathological analysis of the surgical specimen demonstrated a bronchogenic cyst. This case is compared with some of the few cases reported in the literature.

Extragonadal germ cell tumors are rare. The association with Klinefelter syndrome has become observed recently. A case of an 11-month-old infant with Klinefelter syndrome and a retroperitoneal mature teratoma is presented. In the tumor and lymphocytes, a 47,XXY karyotype was found. The association of Klinefelter syndrome with germ cell tumors and its possible explanations are discussed.

Hardly ever one can find a hydatid cyst in other parts of the organism except in the liver and lungs. The localization in the retroperitoneum is very rare. We have shown an unusually located hydatid cyst in the retroperitoneum. The cyst was firmly integrated with the structure of m. psoas and the muscle resection was necessary.

Most blunt traumatic pelvic venous injuries are associated with pelvic fractures. We report the case of a 32-year-old man who suffered a common iliac vein laceration, without a pelvic fracture, during a motor vehicle accident. Laparotomy and venous repair were undertaken.

Infectious processes in the retroperitoneal space often involve the psoas muscle. These infections usually are secondary to other intra-abdominal or intrapelvic inflammatory processes but rarely they will arise primarily within the retroperitoneum. These primary infections occur most often in younger patients and usually will demonstrate a chronic illness in which the diagnosis often is missed. We describe a 22-year-old man with a 2-year history of symptoms before the diagnosis was confirmed. The clinical presentation of the process and pathophysiology are discussed briefly.

Excluding patients with bulky stages II or III disease, 73 patients with nonseminomatous germ cell testicular tumors were evaluated between September 1979 and April 1983 for a protocol omitting retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF) is a rare condition characterized by fibrous tissue proliferation in the retroperitoneal space, commonly affecting the ureters and other abdominal structures. This case report describes a previously undocumented presentation of IRF in a 52-year-old female, who presented with recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding and severe anemia over six months.
