OBJECTIVES: Multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD) is the most severe disorder of mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation. Treatment of this disorder is difficult because the functional loss of the electron transfer flavoprotein makes energy supply from fatty acids impossible. Acetyl-CoA, provided by exogenous ketone bodies such as NaßHB, is the only treatment option in severe cases. Short-term therapy attempts have shown positive results. To our knowledge, no reports exist concerning long-term application of ketone body salts in patients with severe MADD.

A series of experiments were conducted to determine the relative acidogenicities of dietary chloride, phosphorus, and sulfate and their effects on shell quality. The effects of four different irrigation solutions for preparation of colonoscopy were assessed in 64 patients. Using saline lavage solutions similar to plasma led to predominant symptoms of volume overload. Body weight transitorily increased by 1.7 +/- 0.2 kg, water and electrolytes were retained. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the toxicity of single doses of intravitreally administered interferon alpha-2b in the New Zealand white albino rabbit.
INTERVENTIONS: One eye each of six rabbits received an intravitreal injection of 1000, 10,000, 100,000, 500,000, 1 million or 2 million units of interferon alpha-2b reconstituted in 0.1 mL of balanced salt solution. The fellow eye of the first three rabbits received an intravitreal injection of the same volume of balanced salt solution.
