[Linear scleroderma en coup de sabre: neurological symptoms, images and review].

INTRODUCTION: 'Sword stroke' linear scleroderma, which is better known as linear scleroderma en coup de sabre (LSCS), is a rare disease with an uncertain causation that is characterised by progressive craniofacial focal atrophy and is, at least in part, different from Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS). CASE REPORTS: Here, we report on the cases of 3 patients with LSCS (2 females and 1 male, with a mean age of 40 years). The main neurological symptoms were headache and seizures. Although different alterations were observed in the X-ray images, they were all ipsilateral to the coup de sabre. Histopa

A case of lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis infantilis with morphea.

A 5-year-old female developed three depressed lesions sequentially on her left hip, left upper arm and left Achilles tendon; we diagnosed them as lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis infantilis (LCAI). She also developed two sclerotic lesions, at almost the same time, on her left upper arm and left forearm; we diagnosed them as morphea. Clinical and histopathological examination revealed that the LCAI and morphea seen in our case were completely different. Although two other cases of co-existing LCAI and morphea have already been reported, they were not described in detail and their morphe

Coexisting morphoea and granuloma annulare-are the conditions related?

Granuloma annulare and localized morphoea are both well described in the dermatological literature. We now present two patients with both of these diseases, a comorbidity rarely described. A possible pathogenic relationship is discussed.

Repair of "coup de sabre," a linear form of scleroderma.

A case of coup de sabre, a linear form of scleroderma, is presented. Treatment consisted of soft-tissue expansion and autologous bone grafting to the forehead, a composite graft for alar reconstruction, and a scalp graft for eyebrow reconstruction. None of the linear scleroderma cases reported in the literature consisted of bony reconstruction.

Scleromyxedema serum increases proliferation but not the glycosaminoglycan synthesis of dermal fibroblasts.

In comparison to normal fibroblasts cultured in parallel, scleromyxedema fibroblasts grew less well, synthesized increased amounts of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) in vitro and had ultrastructural abnormalities. Serum obtained from a patient with scleromyxedema increased in vitro fibroblast proliferation but not the GAG synthesis per cell. Serum obtained after therapy, at the time when clinical improvement was observed, continued to stimulate fibroblast proliferation. Thus the serum factor stimulating the fibroblast proliferation did not modulate their GAG synthesis and had no direct relationship t

Scleromyxedema and severe myositis.

A case of scleromyxedema with associated rhabdomyolysis is reported. This appears to be a well-documented, although rare complication of scleromyxedema. This case is unique in that mucin was demonstrated in the muscle as well as the skin, and spontaneous resolution of the rhabdomyolysis occurred with the implementation of IV fluids and bed rest.

[Circumscribed scleroderma combined with lichen sclerosus et atrophicus].

We report on two patients suffering from circumscribed scleroderma as well as lichen sclerosus et atrophicus. The cases are remarkable because it was possible to demonstrate histopathologic markers of both conditions in the same specimen.

Phenylketonuria and scleroderma.

Two mentally retarded siblings, one with severe segmental scleroderma and the other with atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini, were found at the ages of 6 and 10 years to have phenylketonuria (PKU). The belief that a common pathomechanism exists between morphea and atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini is supported by the case of the two siblings. Disorders in tryptophan metabolism can occur in both PKU and scleroderma. For a low phenylalanine diet to be effective in PKU, it has to be instituted at an early age. Phenylketonuria should be considered in infants and children with sclerodermatous skin

Case report. The nonspecific rheumatoid subcutaneous nodule: its presence in fibrositis and scleroderma.

"Rheumatoid" subcutaneous nodules that were at one time considered diagnostic of rheumatoid arthritis or rheumatic fever have also been found in individuals withoug known disease, in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, and in other conditions. In this report, subcutaneous nodules were described in one patient with fibrositis and in another scleroderma. Multiple pathogenic mechanisms are probably responsible for development of these nodules.

Development of PBC/SSc overlap syndrome in chronic GVHD patient: immunological implications in the presence of mitochondrial, nucleolar and spindle midzone autoantigens.

Chronic Graft versus Host Disease (cGVHD) is a complex disease resulting from donor T-cell recognition of a genetically disparate recipient that is unable to reject donor cells after allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). cGVHD has some features resembling to autoimmune diseases (AD) such as Sjögren syndrome, primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and scleroderma (SSc). Also patients with cGVHD could develop extensive cGVHD with scleroderma-like skin manifestations and other clinical signs similar to those of patients with scleroderma. We take into consideration a patient with GVHD that develop

Vascularized Chin Fat Flap for Mandibular Reconstruction in Stable Scleroderma En Coup De Sabre: A Case Report and Review of Surgical Considerations.

Scleroderma en coup de sabre (ECDS) is a rare form of linear scleroderma that typically causes progressive atrophy on the face, which can affect both appearance and function over time. Although various reconstructive strategies exist, the use of a vascularized chin fat flap (CFF) for mandibular soft tissue restoration has not been previously reported. We describe a 61-year-old woman with stable ECDS and anterior mandibular depression. After disease stabilization with methotrexate, a pedicled fat flap was harvested from the submental region and inset via a single incision while preserving its n

A Case of Taxane-Induced Scleroderma Presenting in a Unilateral Upper Limb and a Literature Review.

A 64-year-old woman with progressive thickening of the skin on her left upper limb was referred to our clinic. She had previously undergone partial mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection for left-sided breast cancer, followed by postoperative radiation therapy and chemotherapy with docetaxel. She exhibited edema and sclerosis of the left arm and contracture limited to the fingers of the left hand, while her right arm and lower extremities remained unaffected. There were no signs of Raynaud's phenomenon or periungual capillary abnormalities suggestive of systemic sclerosis. Skin biopsy f

Nephrotic syndrome due to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis complicating scleroderma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Systemic scleroderma (SSc) is an insidious autoimmune connective tissue disorder with multiorgan involvement. Renal involvement is one of the important causes of morbidity and mortality in scleroderma; however, nephrotic syndrome is reported rarely in association with SSc. We present a patient with SSc who developed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) as a complication of scleroderma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 59 year old Caucasian female patient, with a known history of diffuse systemic sclerosis from 8 years, presented to our clinic with symptoms of anasarca and weight gain. He
