Indirect sinus floor elevation for osseointegrated prostheses. A 10-year prospective study.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the indirect/closed maxillary floor elevation technique for the insertion of osseointegrated implants to support fixed prostheses clinically. Thirty-one patients (19 female, 12 male) with a mean age of 62 +/- 9 years were selected for this study. All patients needed implants in the posterior maxillary region to support osseointegrated prosthesis. Forty-seven implants were inserted using the indirect/closed sinus floor elevation method, and another 31 implants were placed in the same individuals as intra-individual control. No augmentation material was used

Study of Lateral Wall Thickness of the Maxillary Sinus in Left and Right Sides for Female and Male: A Cross Sectional Retrospective Study Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography.

BACKGROUND: Dental implants are considered the first option to replace missing teeth. Alveolar bone resorption gradually progresses following tooth extraction leading to loss of vertical bone dimension for implant placement. The lateral window approach is the most commonly used procedure to treat vertical bone loss. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the Lateral Wall Thickness (LWT) of the maxillary sinus and determine the influence of gender and side on maxillary LWT. METHODS: This study involved a cross sectional retrospective study. Cone- beam computed tomography data

Long-Term Human Histologic Evaluation of Sinus Bone Augmentation and Simultaneous Implant Placement.

This study aimed to histologically and histomorphometrically evaluate osseointegration following simultaneous implant placement and maxillary sinus augmentation. Three retrospective human cases are described in which implants were placed at the maxillary sinus site augmented with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and later retrieved due to implant fracture after 5 to 8 years of occlusal loading. The removed implants with bone were processed for histologic evaluation, and bone-to-implant contact (BIC), bone area (BA), and mirror-image bone area (MIBA) were measured. Mature lamella bone w

Maxillary sinus augmentation.

Pneumatization of the maxillary sinus secondary to posterior maxillary tooth loss is an extremely common finding. Significant atrophy of the maxilla prevents implant placement in this region. For several decades, sinus augmentation has been used to develop these sites for dental implant placement. The main techniques for increasing the vertical bone height of the posterior maxilla are the transalveolar and lateral antrostomy approaches. The clinical and radiographic examinations dictate the appropriate method for each clinical situation. Both techniques have been shown to have high success rat

Implants in maxillary sinus.

Augmentation of the floor of the maxillary sinus is an extremely important technique for posterior site development in the maxilla prior to implant placement. A number of techniques have been suggested and used in the past to deal with membrane perforations such as suturing the membrane, application of fibrin sealants oxidized regenerated cellulose and collagen membranes. The most important aspect of sinus grafting is the integrity of the sinus membrane solely to confine the graft. If membrane tears are not taken care of, graft material can extravasate into the antrum and block the ostium. The

Prevalence of maxillary sinus septa in 1024 subjects with edentulous upper jaws: a retrospective study.

Maxillary sinus floor augmentation has been routinely performed to optimize dental implant placement in the posterior maxilla. However, complications during a sinus grafting procedure, such as perforation of the Schneiderian membrane, have been reported. This complication is generally associated with the presence of maxillary septa. Therefore, the aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the prevalence of maxillary sinus septae in completely edentulous subjects by means of panoramic radiography. A total of 1024 panoramic radiographs were evaluated by 3 calibrated examiners. From these r…
