Exploring Pain Phenotyping in Cervicogenic Headache Management.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Intervention trials for cervicogenic headache (CGH) often yield equivocal results with marked treatment effect heterogene … al interventions regarding lifestyle factors such as physical activity, diet and weight management, sleep hygiene, and stress reduction. The anesthetic blockade, glucocorticoid injection, and radiofrequency denervation are strongly recommended for nociceptive CGH pain. Patients with persistent nociplastic CGH pain may benefit from neuromodulation interventions. …

Oral and Gut Health, (Neuro) Inflammation, and Central Sensitization in Chronic Pain: A Narrative Review of Mechanisms, Treatment Opportunities, and Research Agenda.

Given the limited efficacy of current interventions and the complexity of chronic pain, identifying perpetuating factors is crucial for uncovering new mechanistic pathways and treatment targets. The oral and gut microbiome has emerged as a potential modulator of pain through immune, metabolic, and neural mechanisms. Contemporary evidence indicates that chronic pain populations exhibit altered oral and gut microbiota, characterized by reduced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing taxa and an overrepresentation of pro-inflammatory species. These compositional changes affect metabolites such as

BACKGROUND: Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder caused by gene alterations on chromosome 15q11-q13, resulting in hyperphagia and neuroendocrine deficits. A comprehensive guide for dental treatment for PWS is lacking despite numerous case reports. The objective of this report was to develop a problem-focused list of the interrelationship between oral and systemic parameters of PWS and enable dentists in anticipating the unique treatment needs of children and individuals with PWS. METHODS: Four pediatric patients with PWS presenting to an academic dental clinic

Her weight gain was poor, and laboratory test results showed low iron and zinc levels. Over the previous 6 months, she had been prescribed numerous courses of antibiotics, but, despite this, she continued to have secondary skin infections as well as deep circumscribed erosions on her shins. She was awake much of the night because of scratching and displayed repetitive and habitual behavior. She also had trouble

This study reviews the clinical profile, diagnostic pathways, treatment strategies, and outcomes of AK cases managed over a 34-year period. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 52 microbiologically AK cases from 1983 to 2017. Results: The mean age at presentation was 27.7 ± 9.4 years, with a female predominance (63.5%). The majority (82.7%) were contact lens users, almost exclusively soft lens wearers, with documented risk behaviors such as poor hygiene and sleeping with lenses. 4

A self-supervised algorithm to detect signs of social isolation in the elderly from daily activity sequences.

Considering the increasing aging of the population, multi-device monitoring of the activities of daily living (ADL) of older people becomes crucial to support independent living and early detection of symptoms of mental illnesses, such as depression and Alzheimer's disease. Anomalies can anticipate the diagnosis of these pathologies in the patient's normal behavior, such as reduced hygiene, changes in sleep habits, and fewer social interactions. These abnormalities are often subtle and hard to detect. Especially using non-intrusive monitoring devices might cause anomaly detectors to generate f

Mass drug administration for endemic scabies: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Scabies is an extremely fastidious infestation caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. It causes a persistent itch that can disrupt a person's mental health, sleep, and overall quality of life. In endemic areas, treatment by targeting symptomatic individuals and their contacts is often unsuccessful due to an asymptomatic period and high rates of re-infection. To overcome this, Mass Drug Administration (MDA) is often used to treat the whole community, irrespective of whether individuals presently have scabies. This review summarises the evidence for the effectiveness of MDA in treatin

Risk Behaviors for Contact Lens-Related Eye Infections Among Adults and Adolescents - United States, 2016.

Contact lens-related eye infections, which can lead to serious outcomes, including blindness, are associated with several risk factors, including sleeping in lenses, exposing lenses to water, not adhering to replacement schedules, and reusing disinfecting solution (1). In some studies, adolescent and young adult contact lens wearers have been reported to be more likely than older adult contact lens wearers to develop eye infections (2,3) and more likely to have poor contact lens hygiene practices (2). In 2015, CDC reported the number and demographics of adult contact lens wearers in the United
