We describe an unusual case of recurrent, refractory anterior epistaxis in an 86-year-old man with two mechanical heart valves who was on permanent warfarin therapy. His numerous episodes of epistaxis were incited by chronic nose-picking and strong nose-blowing, practices that he continued to engage in despite repeated medical advice to stop. Frost sutures are temporary suspension sutures conventionally used in oculoplastics. The case is presented here of a patient with multiple orbital fractures who developed worsening conjunctival chemosis and pseudoproptosis. This patient was managed successfully with Frost sutures. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there is no documented use of Frost sutures in this type of case. It is emphasized that this technique should only be considered following rigorous exclusion of retrobulbar pathology and careful attention towards early detection of raised intraocular pressure.

In animal experiments with a 12-month follow-up, the safety and compatibility of absorbable staple lines following gastrointestinal surgery were analysed.
