OBJECTIVE: To determine appropriate upper limits for gestational age and birth weight when screening infants for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

SETTING: Tertiary neonatal intensive care nursery.
PATIENTS: Seven hundred seven infants born July 1, 1990 to June 30, 1996 and screened for ROP according to the 1988 to 1996 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.

During a recent 5-month period, 201 injured drivers were admitted to a level 1 trauma center. Blood alcohol concentrations (BACs) and drug screens were obtained in 187 and 164 subjects, respectively. BACs were positive in 37% and other drugs were confirmed in 40%, suggesting that alcohol and drug use among injured drivers is comparable. STUDY DESIGN: We retrospectively reviewed the charts of all women born outside the United States who delivered at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during 2003-2006. These women were identified through the birth certificate applications for their children.
