Regenerative endodontic treatment of an immature permanent tooth at an early stage of root development: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) has been used in treating nonvital immature permanent tooth whose root formation ranged from approximately two-thirds of the full root length to almost completely developed root with open apex at least 1.1 mm in diameter according to the reported cases. However, this case report was to introduce RET in an affected tooth at an early stage of root development. METHODS: The premolar #29 in an 8-year-old girl had pulpal necrosis and apical periodontitis caused by the fracture of dens evaginatus. Its root was at the beginning of formation. Copi

Immediate bone augmentation after infected tooth extraction using titanium membranes.

Infectious process frequently results in extensive bone resorption and defect, periradicular or periapical lesions, or vertical fracture with infected sinus tract. When tooth extraction is mandated it typically results in additional bone loss in the buccal or lingual cortical plate. Immediate guided bone regeneration (GBR) and implant fixation at an infected site is frequently complicated by soft-tissue dehiscence, membrane exposure, and implant failure. The objective of this research is to assess the feasibility of immediate bone augmentation (IBA) after purulent tooth extraction, employing a

Continued root formation after replantation and root canal treatment in an avulsed immature permanent tooth: a case report.

This case report describes the continued root formation following replantation and conventional root canal therapy of a traumatically avulsed open-apex tooth with suppurative apical periodontitis. A 7-year-old male patient had an avulsed upper left central incisor (tooth 21) replanted approximately 50 min after traumatic avulsion. A root canal procedure was initiated due to pulp necrosis and periapical abscess detected in the follow-up period. After endodontic treatment with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)(2)) dressing, a normal root length developed including an apical segment beyond the hard tissu

Traumatically injured primary incisors: a clinical and histological study.

World-wide epidemiological studies state that from 8 percent to 30 percent of children up to 7 years of age sustain injury to primary incisors, including crown fracture, root fracture, tooth avulsion, and dental displacement, which result in malformation of permanent incisors depending upon their state of development. In this study, traumatized primary incisors were evaluated clinically and radiographically, with the following data recorded: exact or approximate time-interval of traumatic episode(s) and extraction, mobility, color change, sensitivity to percussion/palpation, swelling, sinus tr

Longitudinal Analysis of Tooth Loss as a Biomarker of Systemic Health: Insights From a 15-Year Study of 35 Patients.

Introduction Tooth loss, often perceived as a localized dental issue, has profound implications for systemic health. It is frequently associated with underlying factors such as periodontal disease, smoking, poor dietary habits, and psychological stress. These factors contribute to tooth loss locally and are linked to various systemic conditions, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This study explores the predictive value of tooth loss as a biomarker for systemic health conditions, emphasizing its potential to serve as an early warning indicator for broader health risks and highlight

Fracture load and three-dimensional internal void analysis of direct composites used to restore worn molars.

This study evaluated (1) the load-bearing capacity of molars restored with direct occlusal veneers fabricated either from short-fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) or particulate-filled composite (PFC) and the presence of internal voids within the materials, and (2) effect of water storage on the fracture load and correlation between internal voids and fracture load. Sixty human molars (n = 10/group) were prepared with flat occlusal surfaces and preserved enamel margins simulating worn teeth. Conventional molds were taken for each tooth to control the preparation depth and transparent molds to r

Effect of Different Disinfection/Sterilization Methods on Risk of Fracture of Teeth Used in Preclinical Dental Education.

The aim of this in vitro study was to determine whether different disinfection/sterilization methods affected the risk of fracture of extracted teeth used for preclinical dental education. Freshly extracted intact mandibular incisors were assigned to different groups according to the processing method used. In the autoclave group (n=20), teeth were autoclaved for 40 min at 240°F under a pressure of 20 psi; in the formalin group (n=20), teeth were immersed in 10% formalin for two weeks; and in the control group (n=10), teeth were not processed. Teeth were then stored at 4°C in distilled water u

Periodontal tissue repair after sealing of the gap in vertical root fracture.

The aim of this study was to determine whether sealing of fracture gap using adhesive resin through the root canal can prevent inflammation of periodontal tissue, and resealing the incompletely sealed fracture gap from outside can resolve such inflammation in experimentally created vertical root fractures. Vertical root fractures were created in incisor of beagles. In the experimental group, the fracture gap was sealed through the root canal with adhesive resin. After 5 weeks, sites with the clinical attachment level ≥4 mm were further divided randomly into the poor-replanting group and the po

A Novel Concept for Developing a Precise and Predictable Post and Core Complex Using the Injectable Resin Technique (Part 2).

Post and core systems have long been used in dentistry for the purposes of replacing missing coronal tooth structure, retaining the core, and providing sufficient retention and resistance form to the final restoration to re-establish original form and function. While Part 1 of this two-part article provided a history of post and core systems and materials and discussed empirical data regarding fiber-reinforced post systems, this second part of the article focuses on an alternative approach for developing a fiber-reinforced post and core system using a monoblock system via the injectable resin

Fracture Resistance of the Bundle Post System and Conventional Fiber Post with Different Lengths.

This study compares the fracture strength of teeth restored with conventional round fiber post (CP) and bundle post (BP) in two different lengths. A total of 48 mandibular premolars were selected. Endodontic treatment was performed, and the premolars were divided into four groups (n = 12 per group): Group C9 = 9-mm CP; Group C5 = 5-mm CP; Group B9 = 9-mm BP; Group B5 = 5-mm BP. Post spaces were prepared, and posts were disinfected with alcohol. Silane was applied, and posts were placed with self-etch dual-cure adhesive. The core structures were created using dual-cure adhesive and standardized

Horizontal root fracture in a maxillary central incisor: a case report.

An 80-year-old patient fell while jogging, hitting his face on the concrete trail and causing a horizontal root fracture of his maxillary right central incisor. The fracture separated the root into 2 halves about 0.60-0.84 mm apart, resulting in extrusion of the incisal half. The patient had severe lip swelling and facial injury but no tooth pain. Various options for care were evaluated, but, other than reducing the extrusion, placing local antibiotics, and prescribing periodontal medication, the dentist did not provide or recommend further treatment. At the most recent recall, 8 years after t

Surgical Treatment of a Cemental Tear-Associated Bony Defect Using Hyaluronic Acid and a Resorbable Collagen Membrane: A 2-Year Follow-Up.

INTRODUCTION: A cemental tear (CeT) is a special type of surface root fracture that may cause periodontal and even periapical tissue destruction. Unfortunately, there is limited knowledge as to how these rare cases can effectively be treated. The present case is believed to be the first reported in the literature treating a bony defect caused by a cemental tear with hyaluronic acid (HA) and a collagen membrane. The aim of this case report is to present a regenerative surgical approach with clinical and tomographic success and stability at 2-year follow-up. CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old pat

Extraction of an incisor embedded within the nasal cavity in two guinea pigs.

Oral examination of two guinea pigs revealed that the unilateral incisor was absent. On radiographic examination, the incisor was identified within the nasal cavity in both patients. Under anesthesia in both patients, the skin was incised from the nostril to 1.5 cm proximal, and the premaxilla and part of the maxilla were exposed. The bone was removed using a surgical drill, and the incisor was exposed in the nasal cavity. The root was grasped with forceps and carefully extracted as it was degraded and very fragile. Diagnosis was easy using oral and radiographic examination. In guinea pig pati

Pulpal response after acute dental injury in the permanent dentition: clinical implications-a review.

INTRODUCTION: Pulpal reactions after acute dental injury have been puzzling for many clinicians. The management of dental trauma and an understanding of clinical and treatment factors in outcomes arose from multivariate statistical analyses of archive material from Copenhagen. METHODS: The aim of this article was to review the works of this period with respect to pulpal reaction after acute mechanical trauma. These traumas include luxation, avulsion, root fracture, and crown fracture. A PubMed search identified other literature where multivariate analysis was used, and these results were comp
