OBJECTIVE: To determine the HIV prevalence rate among tuberculosis (TB) patients in Guangxi, China.
METHODS: Stratified cluster sampling and systematic sampling methods were used to select 16 clinics from which pulmonary TB patients were recruited to participate in this study. Two thousand three hundred pulmonary TB patients provided information on sociodemographic characteristics, HIV-related knowledge and high-risk behaviors, and method of TB diagnosis. The objective of the study was to evaluate risk factors for pulmonary tuberculosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Clinical/laboratorial features of 1283 SLE patients (ACR criteria) followed at the Lupus Clinic were obtained from the electronic register database from 2001 to 2009. Pulmonary tuberculosis was diagnosed in 20 patients (1.6%) (TB+ group). As control group (TB-), 40 patients without tuberculosis matched for age, gender, ethnicity, age at SLE diagnosis, and disease duration were arbitrarily selected. To determine the frequency of nocardiosis in HIV-positive individuals clinically suspected of having tuberculosis (TB), 140 sputum samples were collected and processed by Gram stain, modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining and by culture on Lowenstein Jensen medium. Local treatment with intra vesical BCG for bladder carcinoma have few complications. Pulmonary side effects are rare, like interstitial pneumonitis. We report a case of a 77-year-old man, treated with BCG for bladder carcinoma who developed illness and tumoral chest-X-ray opacity. Mycobacterium tuberculosis bovis was isolated in culture and 2 years after in sputum. Physio pathologic mechanism of pulmonary features remains controversial, however this case suggest that lung lesions can be result of an infection process.

We report a case of systemic lupus erythematosus in a 15-year-old girl with initial presentation as acute lupus pneumonitis. A fulminant course with pancytopenia and respiratory distress were developed 3 weeks after symptom onset. Four cases of multiple nodular pulmonary tuberculosis simulating metastatic lung cancer were reported. These patients were asymptomatic, found by chance during physical checkups, and had no clinical findings indicative of inflammatory reactions. PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to describe the radiologic findings of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients who presented with acute respiratory failure.
METHODS: We included patients who had newly diagnosed active pulmonary tuberculosis and who presented with acute respiratory failure. Initial chest radiographic (n = 17) and high-resolution CT (n = 11) findings of each patient were analyzed retrospectively.

A comprehensive clinical and roentgenological evaluation was done in 495 patients with primary tuberculosis aged more than eighteen. The clinical pattern of primary forms of the specific process was characterized by predominance of tuberculosis of intrathoracic lymph nodes (tumorous form) infiltrative tuberculosis of pararoot or lower-lobe localization, and exudative pleurisy. Primary tuberculosis was diagnosed in 56.4% of adults. Examination of sputum for changed forms of MBT increases the frequency of verification of diagnosis by 16.0% in comparison with conventional microbiological assays.
