Mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin and lactate dehydrogenase as predictors of left ventricular remodeling in patients with myocardial infarction treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.

INTRODUCTION: The main impact of myocardial infarction (MI) is shifting from acute mortality to adverse remodeling, chronic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, and heart failure. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess relationships between levels of circulating biomarkers and the function of LV after MI. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This was a prospective study of 80 patients with MI treated with percutaneous coronary intervention. Novel biomarkers including mid‑regional pro‑adrenomedullin (MR‑proADM), Notch‑1, syndecan‑4, myeloperoxidase, S‑100 protein, soluble ST‑2, as well as markers of

Microvascular Dysfunction Related to Progressive Left Ventricular Remodeling due to Chronic Occlusion of the Left Anterior Descending Artery in an Adult Porcine Heart.

Occlusion of a major coronary artery induces myocardial infarction (MI), leading to left ventricle (LV) remodeling due to progressive microvasculature dysfunction. Irreversible impairment in microvascular function has been suggested to extend from the infarcted region into the infarct-border or remote regions, depending on the time to revascularization. Our aim was to determine whether the occlusion of a major coronary artery induces microvascular dysfunction in the adjacent area perfused by intact coronary arteries using a porcine model for chronic total occlusion of the left anterior descend

Less pronounced reverse left ventricular remodeling in patients with bicuspid aortic stenosis treated with transcatheter aortic valve replacement compared to tricuspid aortic stenosis.

To compare reverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) between patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and tricuspid aortic valve (TAV). We retrospectively reviewed data of patients with at least two serial echocardiographic follow-ups (1, 3, 6 months and 1 year) post-TAVR. A total of 116 patients were identified. BAV morphology was documented in 67 patients. LV mass index (LVMi) at baseline was not significantly different between the TAV and BAV group (178.0 ± 6.9 vs. 166.3 ± 6.4 g/m2, P = 0.14). Reverse LV remodeling was observed in both BAV

Cardiac fibrosis detected by magnetic resonance imaging on predicting time course diversity of left ventricular reverse remodeling in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy.

This study aimed to identify the association between the time course of left ventricular reverse remodeling (LVRR) and late gadolinium enhancement in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (LGE-cMRI) in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM). We identified 214 IDCM patients treated by optimal pharmacotherapies. LVRR was defined as ≥10 % increment in LV ejection fraction along with ≥10 % reduction in LV end-diastolic dimension. Findings of LGE-cMRI focusing on presence and extent of LGE were evaluated at baseline. Echocardiographic evaluation for detecting LVRR was performed in all

Temporal change of myocardial tissue character is associated with left ventricular reverse remodeling in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy: A cardiovascular magnetic resonance study.

BACKGROUND: Prognostic significance of temporal change in myocardial tissue characterization by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has not been elucidated in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). METHODS AND RESULTS: Sixty-eight patients with newly-diagnosed DCM who underwent CMR including late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) both at baseline and during follow-up period were enrolled. LGE score was defined by a signal intensity of ≥5 standard deviations above the remote reference myocardium mean. Left ventricular reverse remodeling (LVRR) defined as a LV ejection fraction

Traditional Chinese medicine, Danlou tablets alleviate adverse left ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction: results of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Danlou tablets, a patented Chinese Medicine, have been long approved for the treatment of ischemic heart disease in China. While numerous empirical observations suggested Danlou tablets could decrease frequency and duration of angina pectoris attacks, evidence supporting its efficacy on cardiac remodeling remains inadequate. Therefore, this pilot trial was designed to determine whether Danlou tablets would reduce adverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling in patients with myocardial infarction (MI). METHODS AND RESULTS: Eligible patients with acute MI were enrolled and randomly assi

Shorter Heart Failure Duration Is a Predictor of Left Ventricular Reverse Remodeling During Adaptive Servo-Ventilator Treatment in Patients With Advanced Heart Failure.

Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) is a recently developed, noninvasive therapeutic tool for the treatment of heart failure (HF). However, prediction of responsiveness to continuous ASV therapy remains uncertain, especially in patients with advanced HF receiving guideline-directed medical therapy. A total of 47 patients with advanced HF (NYHA class IV 74%, inotrope infusion dependent 38%) received continuous ASV therapy at our institute between 2008 and 2014. Of these 47 patients, 12 (26%) were responders, whose left ventricular ejection fraction increased ≥ 5% during the 6-month study period. S

Interstitial fibrosis, left ventricular remodeling, and myocardial mechanical behavior in a population-based multiethnic cohort: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) study.

BACKGROUND: Tagged cardiac magnetic resonance provides detailed information on regional myocardial function and mechanical behavior. T1 mapping by cardiac magnetic resonance allows noninvasive quantification of myocardial extracellular expansion (ECE), which has been related to interstitial fibrosis in previous clinical and subclinical studies. We assessed sex-associated differences in the relation of ECE to left ventricular (LV) remodeling and myocardial systolic and diastolic deformation in a large community-based multiethnic population. METHODS AND RESULTS: Midventricular midwall peak circ

Exploring the Mechanism of Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan Decoction in Ventricular Remodeling after Acute Myocardial Infarction Based on UPLC and In Vivo Experiments.

Ventricular remodeling (VR) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is an important pathophysiological basis for the development of chronic heart failure (CHF). At present, Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan decoction (LGZGD) has been widely reported in the clinical treatment and basic research of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), such as myocardial infarction, heart failure, and angina pectoris. However, the mechanism of LGZGD against VR after AMI remains unclear. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) was applied to investigate the major constituents of LGZGD, and molecular docking was used to predict t…
