CdFe2O4/Co-MOF (CdF@CM) composite was synthesized via a hydrothermal method by coupling cadmium ferrite CdFe2O4 with a cobalt-based metal-organic framework (Co-MOF). Among the synthesized materials, CdF@CM composite demonstrated outstanding photodegradation efficiency against bisphenol A (BPA), a widely used plastic industry contaminant commonly found in wastewater and surface waters. Under 50 W visible light at 25°C, the CdF@CM composite achieved 97% degradation of 10 ppm BPA at pH 3 within 60 min, corresponding to a quantum yield of 5.66 × 10-5 molecules per photon. The enhanced photon energ

The effects of different heavy metals (Cd, Pb), surfactants (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), cetylpyridine chloride (CPC)) and the ionic strength (Ca2+, NH4+) on breakthrough curves (BTCs) for sorption and desorption of bisphenol A (BPA) were studied using soil column experiment. Results showed that the presence of heavy metals and cationic surfactants caused a significant increase on the BPA sorption. In addition, the volume required when effluent concentration reached half of the influent concentration (VC1/2) increased due to the introduction of heavy metals and surfactants. It was a

The pervasive prevalence of organic pollutants in water bodies presents major obstacles to traditional uranic recovery methods. Herein, a novel self-powered catalytic system has been developed, featuring a TGCNM heterojunction cathode paired with a carbon/chitin nanofilm nanoarray (CNF) and a silicon PVC photovoltaic (Si PVC) photoanode. This advanced assembly enables the concurrent reduction of U(VI), degradation of pollutants, and generation of electricity. The synergy between the functional groups and redox-active sites on the TGCNM heterojunction promotes efficient adsorption and stepwise

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is increasingly viewed as an environmentally influenced, epigenetically mediated reproductive–metabolic disorder. Bisphenol A (BPA) exposure is higher in women with PCOS and has been linked to hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance and ovarian dysfunction, while N6-methyladenosine (m6A) dysregulation contributes to granulosa cells (GCs) proliferation and apoptosis. However, the downstream gene networks that integrate BPA exposure, m6A imbalance and GCs apoptosis in PCOS remain unclear. METHODS: BPA-related genes were retrieved from the Comparative Tox

A self-signaling electrochemical sensor based on molecular imprinting technology for the detection of Bisphenol A (BPA) in food samples. The sensor was constructed through sequential modification of the electrode with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and CoNiFe Prussian blue analogue (CoNiFe-PBA), followed by electropolymerization of an MIP film using BPA as template and o-phenylenediamine as monomer. CoNiFe-PBA provides an intrinsic signal at ~ 0.47 V without external probes, originating from synergistic redox interactions among Co, Ni, and Fe. BPA rebinding reduces the signal via steric hindranc

Environmental phenols are endocrine-disrupting chemicals widely used in personal care products. They have been shown to affect the mammary gland, but knowledge about their impact on breastfeeding duration is limited. We aimed to explore associations between maternal phenols exposure during pregnancy and breastfeeding duration. We included 373 mother-infant pairs from the Health Outcomes and Measures of the Environment (HOME) Study (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) enrolled from 2003 to 2006. We measured urinary concentrations of eight phenols at 16 and 26 weeks of gestation (bisphenol A, triclosan, benz

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used industrial chemical present in numerous consumer products such as plastics, epoxy resins, and thermal paper. Growing evidence suggests that BPA may pose potential health risks, particularly in relation to carcinogenesis. In this study, we investigated the toxic effects and carcinogenic role of BPA using two bladder cancer cell lines, T24 and UMUC. Our results show that BPA influences cell viability and migration in a dose-dependent manner. At low concentrations, BPA significantly promoted cell growth and cell migration in both T24 and UMUC cells, whereas high

Astrocytes play a crucial role in maintaining central nervous system homeostasis, supporting neuronal function and regulating oxidative stress. The placenta, through the secretion of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), facilitates communication between the maternal and fetal environments, potentially mitigating external stressors. Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disruptor, has been implicated in oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, particularly in the developing brain. However, the mechanisms by which placental sEVs influence astrocyte responses to BPA remain unclear. This study in

This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying BPA(Bisphenol A)-induced cervical cancer, to identify core targets and signaling pathways, and to provide a theoretical basis for disease prevention and therapeutic intervention. The chemical structure of BPA was obtained from PubChem(Public Chemical Database), and its toxicity profile was evaluated using ProTox-3.0. Potential BPA-associated targets were predicted using multiple databases and subsequently standardized. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in cervical cancer were identified from Gene Expression Omnibus dataset

Gastrodin (GAS) is a potent neuroprotective compound extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Gastrodia elata Blume. However, its role in mitigating bisphenol A (BPA)-induced dopaminergic dysfunction and cognitive impairment remains insufficiently explored. Many studies have shown that BPA exposure causes neurodegeneration via mechanisms involving dopaminergic system dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate whether GAS mitigates the effects of BPA-induced cognitive impairment through neuroinflammation in a rat model. W

The present study evaluated the combined germ cell effects of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and bisphenol A (BPA) on juvenile Sprague Dawley rats. Animals were orally exposed to low and high doses of MSG and BPA, individually and in combination, for a consecutive duration of eight weeks. Combined exposure significantly reduced body weight and increased micronucleus formation, indicating systemic genotoxicity. Oxidative stress was demonstrated by elevated MDA, reduced GSH and catalase activity, and increased 8-OHdG expression. Sperm count, motility, chromatin integrity, and ultrastructure were sig

The ability of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L.) to remediate soil was assessed using nine different mixtures of bisphenol A (BPA) and ibuprofen (IBU) in a greenhouse under natural conditions. The study revealed that B. juncea primarily accumulated BPA and IBU in its roots (BAF root >1), with limited movement to the shoots (TF < 1). The greatest absorption was noted for IBU at 83 % and BPA at 57.3 % when exposed to 100 BPA +20 IBU for 90 days. Chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll levels decreased by 42 %, 38 %, and 40 %, respectively, at high contaminant concentrations, wherea

Despite prevailing evidence that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) may exert effects across multiple pregnancies, most studies focus on the first pregnancy Using a multiparity murine model, we evaluated the effects of benzophenone-3 (BP3), bisphenol-A (BPA) or the combination (BP3 +BPA) exposure over two gestational periods (P1 and P2) on pregnancy outcomes and the gonadal function in female offspring from each pregnancy. While maternal weight, litter size, and sex ratio were unaffected, gestation length was altered in BPA and BP3 +BPA groups both in P1 and P2. Ovulation was affected in P2

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals, particularly bisphenol A (BPA), are ubiquitous environmental contaminants that can profoundly affect hormonal systems and human health. The effects are variable and are contingent upon the developmental stage at which exposure occurs. This study aimed to investigate the effects of intrauterine and lactational BPA exposure on the adrenal glands of aged Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus). In a controlled experimental set-up, pregnant gerbils were assigned to control or BPA-exposed groups, with the BPA group receiving a high dose during critical periods of d

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor with reproductive toxicity. Further, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (VD3) plays an important role in male reproduction by binding vitamin D receptor (VDR) and mediating the pleiotropic biological actions that include spermatogenesis. However, whether VD3/VDR regulates the effect of BPA on Leydig cells (LCs) injury remains unknown. This study aimed to explore the effects of VD on BPA-induced cytotoxicity in mouse LCs. Hereby, LCs treated with BPA, VD3, or both were subjected to the assays of cell apoptosis, proliferation, autophagy, and levels of target pro

High throughput transcriptomics (HTTr) profiling has the potential to rapidly and comprehensively identify molecular targets of environmental chemicals that can be linked to adverse outcomes. We describe here the construction and characterization of a 50-gene expression biomarker designed to identify estrogen receptor (ER) active chemicals in HTTr datasets. Using microarray comparisons, the genes in the biomarker were identified as those that exhibited consistent directional changes when ER was activated (4 ER agonists; 4 ESR1 gene constitutively active mutants) and opposite directional change
