Launois Bensaude syndrome is a benign, asymetric lipomatosis involving the upper back, shoulders, neck and arms. The disorder is usually asymptomatic although mediastinal lipomas, extrinsic compression of trachea, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome have been described. We report for the first time to our knowledge a case of Launois Bensaude syndrome with bronchial submucosal adiposis infiltration presenting as flask, smooth, begnin tumor like formation involving several bronchi. Whether this submucosal adipose infiltration participate to the obstructive syndrome is discussed.

Bronchiolitis is an acute viral infection primarily caused by respiratory syncytial virus, affecting children under 2 years of age with a peak prior to six months. The clinical picture results from an inflammatory process of the small bronchi and bronchioles. Infants present with tachypnea and wheezing often accompanied by respiratory distress and hyperinflation. Supportive care is essential, children respond slowly to hydration and careful observation. Respiratory distress requires hospitalization with treatment including oxygen and ventilator support as indicated.

We report herein a case of nonmalignant middle lobe atelectasis of the right lung resulting in significant stenosis of the airway. The new short self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) were used to perform temporary stenting and expansion of the right middle lobe airway. SEMS have been used to treat airway obstructions in the trachea, as well as the right and left carina, but few studies have looked at placing SEMS at the level of the bronchi, especially right middle lobe bronchus.

A middle-aged woman from Southwest Virginia presented to pulmonary clinic with 4 months of dry cough. Further imaging with Computed Tomography (CT) of the chest showed an infiltrative lung mass. The patient underwent bronchoscopy that showed an endobronchial lesion on right and left main stem bronchi. Endobronchial biopsy of the lesion showed acute and chronic granulomatous inflammation and tissue cultures grew Blastomycoses dermatitides. We hereby present a rare case of endobronchial blastomycoses with pulmonary infiltrates presenting as chronic cough.

Polypeptide complexes derived from the bronchi, blood vessels, muscles, kidneys, ovaries, testes, and retina stimulated the processes of cell renewal in organotypic cultures of the corresponding organs of young and old animals. A correlation between the intensity of regeneration and animal' age was revealed. The polypeptide complexes reduced the expression of apoptotic factors p53 and caspase 3 and increased the expression of proliferation protein Ki-67. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a complex hypersensitivity reaction in patients with asthma or cystic fibrosis (CF), which is associated with bronchi colonized by the fungus Aspergillus species, most often Aspergillus fumigatus. ABPA is an important consideration for asthmatics that do not respond to asthma management or with recurrent chest infections and deteriorating lung function in children with cystic fibrosis. We present two cases of non CF bronchiectasis associated with ABPA who presented to our hospital with recurrent hospitalisations of undiagnosed aetiology.

A 39-year-old African American man presented with massive hemoptysis. He was known to have a history of type III sarcoidosis and a chest x-ray consistent with aspergilloma. Bronchoscopy was performed within 48 hours from the onset of the patient's symptoms revealing generalized heme in both the left and right main bronchi. Massive hemoptysis is a potentially life-threatening complication from a variety of diseases. This case serves to illustrate the diagnostic considerations and potential therapeutic interventions in patients with advanced sarcoidosis.

Three cases are presented with benign or low-grade malignant bronchial tumors managed by bronchial sleeve resection distal to the main bronchus. Bronchoplasty was accomplished by suturing the two distal bronchi together and then anastomosing them to the proximal bronchus. No pulmonary parenchyma was removed during the course of operation. All patients had excellent results. Bronchial sleeve resection distal to the main bronchus can be successfully performed; this is a safe and effective bronchoplastic technique for benign or low-grade malignant bronchial tumors.

An 11-year-old, castrated male Pomeranian was presented for intractable cough and dyspnea secondary to severe tracheal collapse. An endoluminal nitinol tracheal stent was placed with good results. Five months following placement of the prosthesis, clinical signs acutely recurred and failure of the implant was noted. A second stent was superimposed over the fractured stent and resulted in resolution of all clinical signs. The dog died several months later from progression of the tracheal collapse to the carina and mainstem bronchi.

A pair of Mammomonogamus laryngeus roundworms in copula was recovered from the duodenum of a 72-year-old male Thai patient from Kanchanaburi Province. Eggs were also found in the stool of the patient. This is the first case of Mammomonogamus infection originating in Thailand, as the previous two reports from Thailand attributed the infection as originating in Malaysia. The occurrence of adult worms in the duodenum is unusual and differs from previous findings in the larynx, posterior pharynx, tracheal wall and bronchi. This adds a new dimension to the manifestation of the infection.

Tracheopathia osteochondroplastica is an uncommon abnormality of the cartilaginous tracheal wall, characterized by the presence of osteocartilaginous calcified nodules within the submucosa, with variable degree of diffuse tracheal narrowing. "Inflammatory pseudotumor" is a broad descriptive term used to describe a localized collection of inflammatory and fibroblastic cells. It is an uncommon lesion that can mimic a tumor when it is located intraluminally in the trachea or bronchi. Because an inflammatory pseudotumor has an abundance of polyclonal plasma cells, its etiology (postinflammatory vs immunologic) is still being debated. We report a new case of inflammatory pseudotumor that arose in the trachea of a 20-year-old man. We also review the histologic and clinical characteristics of this lesion.

Tracheobronchomegaly is defined as a dilatation of the trachea and the large bronchi. It may occur as a familial condition or in association with a connective tissue disease, e.g. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Tracheobronchomegaly occurs late in adults. A 46-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for evaluation of a dense infiltrative shadow in the right middle lung field. Bronchoscopic examination revealed a polypoid lesion in the right middle-lobe bronchus (Bb11(5)). Examination of a biopsy specimen showed a lump with many Nocardia asteroides bacteria. The response to chemotherapy, which included sulfomethoxazole, was poor, and therefore a right middle lobectomy was done. Three mycetomas were found inside the ectatic bronchi in the S5 area. Pulmonary Nocardia mycetoma is rare.

Kartagener syndrome of sinusitis, bronchiectasis and situs inversus has been so called since his classical description in 1933. This report presents two further cases, a brother and sister. They were extensively studied and the findings are reported. A unique finding was that in both patients, both in the maxillary sinuses and in the bronchi, abnormal cilia were discovered on electron microscopy. After a search of the literature the authors conclude that this finding is probably congenital rather than acquired and may explain the development of the sinusitis and bronchiectasis.

It has been tried in this study to produce chronic obstructive bronchitis in dogs by exposing them to high concentrations of SO2. The study was extended to 175 days and during that period the animals were exposed to 300-500 ppm SO2 for a total of 435 h. None of the three dogs developed serious respiratory damage. Most of the symptoms were transitory. Histological examinations showed increased number of goblet cells in trachea, main- and lobar bronchi and a slight alteration of the bronchial glands.
