Corticosteroids and Levamisole are known to be immuno suppressive and immuno stimulating agents respectively. Their effects on polar types of leprosy, tuberculoid and lepromatous have been studied using in vivo lepromin and in vitro lymphocyte count, rosette formation, L.T.T. and L.M.I.T. parameters. The in vitro effect of levamisole on peripheral blood monocyte (P.B.M.) phagocytosis was studied in 32 patients with chronic brucellosis and 20 normal subjects. It was shown that levamisole enhances P.B.M. phagocytic capacity, not reaching however normal levels. A field trial was carried out in the eastern part of the State of Minas Gerais (Brazil) of a vaccine containing killed promastigotes of five stocks of Leishmania. Tests with Montenegro antigen showed that a high proportion of the vaccinated persons became positive within three months, but circulating antibodies were not detected. Blood and thyroid-infiltrating lymphocytes from patients with de Quervain's subacute thyroiditis were tested in the leucocyte migration inhibition test for cell-mediated immunity (CMI) to thyroid antigen. Sonicates from five cultivable treponemes were used as antigens in delayed hypersensitivity tests and macrophage inhibition assays. Immunodiffusion analysis showed that the sonicate comprised two major antigenic components which were not distinguishable in the skin tests. Twenty-four couples facing longstanding primary or secondary infertility underwent semen analysis, PCT, functional evaluation of menstrual cycle, hysterosalpingography and laparscopy. All clinical findings were normal with the exception of PCT which was positive in 13 and negative in 11. To determine whether part of the anti-inflammatory effects of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) was related to inhibition of T cell interactions with endothelial cells (EC), the effects of PGE2 and other cAMP-elevating agents on the transendothelial migration of human T cells was examined.
