Piperazines such as 1-benzylpiperazine (BZP), 1-(3-trifluromethylphenyl)piperazine (3-TFMPP), and 1-(3-chlorophenyl)piperazine (3-CPP) have become recent drugs of abuse. With stimulant effects comparable to amphetamines but with a lower potency and differential global scheduling status, they have been sold as a supposed legal alternative to "Ecstasy". CONTEXT: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) involves the collection of biological samples such as blood, plasma, urine, and saliva. The most commonly used biological matrix for the detection of drugs is either blood or plasma, as they are widely accepted by the regulatory authorities. Such studies require a significant amount of blood to be collected and even more if the study is performed in a plasma sample. The growing demand to minimize the blood or biological samples required for the study of drugs, dried blood spot, or the dried plasma spot techniques has been studied by its demand.

Liver glycogen is depleted in guinea pigs infected with Coxiella burneti. Syntheses of the glycogen precursors uridine triphosphate and uridine diphosphate glucose are unaffected during Q fever, but glycogen synthetase activity is inhibited. Exogenous cortisol relieves this inhibition in infected animals. Orotate and amino acids are more rapidly incorporated into ribonucleic acid and protein during infection. It is proposed that the biochemical defect in the synthesis of glycogen lies in the inactivation of glycogen synthetase.
