INTRODUCTION: Urinary fistulae develop as abnormal connections between the gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) tracts, and occur in … is enterovesical, due to the close proximity of the ileum and bladder dome. Computed tomography and cystoscopy are the most common diagnostic tools utilized. Surgical treatment is usually definitive; however medical treatment has been used with some success as well.
CONCLUSION: Urinary fistulae represent an uncommon, yet serious problem to patients with Cro …

We studied the clinical presentation and management of four patients with anterior urethral valves; a rare cause of urethral obstruction in male children. One patient presented antenatally with oligohydramnios, bilateral hydronephrosis and bladder thickening suggestive of an infravesical obstruction. Two other patients presented postnatally at 1 and 2 years of age, respectively, with poor stream of urine since birth. The fourth patient presented at 9 years with frequency and dysuria. Diagnosis was established on either micturating cystourethrogram (MCU) (in 2) or on cystoscopy (in 2). All pati…

We report three cases of inverted papilloma of the urinary bladder. Case 1. A 19-year-old male complained of pollakisuria, gross hematuria and micturition pain. Cystoscopy revealed a smooth-surfaced tumor on a stalk at the bladder neck. The tumor was removed transurethrally. Histological diagnosis was inverted papilloma. As a safe guard, intravesical chemotherapy (Adriamycin) was performed, since pathological findings revealed a small region with mild atypical cells in the removed tumor. The patients has been subsequently followed up for ten years without any evidence of recurrence. Case 2. A …

We report two cases of primary paraganglioma of the urinary bladder. Case 1. A 61-year-old man was hospitalized with the chief complaints of gross hematuria, dysuria and headache. The patient had a history of hypertension. Cystoscopy disclosed a nonpapillary, sessile tumor in the retrotrigonum of the bladder. An attack of paroxysmal hypertension was induced by bimanual palpation of the tumor, and paraganglioma was suspected. Partial cystectomy with staging pelvic lymphadenectomy was performed. Case 2. A 65-year-old man was hospitalized with the chief complaints of gross hematuria and urinary r…

We studied the operative and functional outcomes of combined retropubic balloon vaginoplasty and laparoscopic canalization (RBV-LC) for treatment of cervicovaginal aplasia. The RBV-LC procedure was performed successfully in 4 cases of cervicovaginal aplasia within 35-40 minutes primary operative time. Cystoscopy was performed to ensure bladder and urethral integrity. Endoscopically monitored canalization with laparoscopic canalization is a feasible, effective, less invasive way for management of cervicovaginal aplasia.

We present a case of an 83-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis and chronic indwelling urethral catheter who was found to have a ureteral injury after inadvertent placement of a foley catheter into the proximal right ureter. Cystoscopy and retrograde ureteral stenting was attempted, but unsuccessful. The patient ultimately underwent successful antegrade ureteral stenting and nephrostomy placement. We review the limited literature on the topic of aberrant foley catheter placement into the ureter.

We report herein a patient with a urethral calculus associated with urethral diverticulum. A 39-year-old man presented with scrotal swelling and acute retention of urine. Computed tomography of the pelvis and cystoscopy demonstrated a giant calculus in the proximal penile urethra. Emergency in-situ lithotripsy was performed. Complete stone clearance was achieved and a large urethral diverticulum was encountered. The rare occurrence of urethral diverticulum and associated stone disease were discussed.

A 70-year-old male patient with diabetes mellitus presented to our hospital with acute obstructive non-oliguric renal failure. Abdominal CT revealed obstructive hydronephrosis and irregular thickening of the bladder wall. Upon cystoscopy, samples of tissue were taken and found to be positive for Aspergillus spp. on histology, indicating infection of the bladder wall. The patient was treated successfully by means of a percutaneous nephrostomy and a 30-day course of caspofungin.

Essential components of tumor follow-up in prostate cancer patients are considered to be the determination of PSA in combination with digital rectal examination, and abdominal together with transurethral ultrasonography. Depending upon the symptoms presenting, additional specialist urological examinations, such as urine flow measurement and cystoscopy may be indicated. The follow-up should be carried out every three months in the first postoperative year, every 6 months in the following years, and annually thereafter.

We report on a rare case of cystitis glandularis complicating an eosinophilic cystitis in an adult. Complaints at presentation included dysuria, haematuria and abdominal pain. Ultrasound and cystoscopy suggested a bladder tumor. Histological analysis of bladder biopsy showed the typical findings of cystitis glandularis associated with eosinophilic cystitis. The patient was treated with transurethral resection of the lesion and a combination of corticosteroids and anthistaminics for three months. He is disease-free at 24 months of follow-up.

Microscopic hematuria is no less significant than gross hematuria, since either may signify such pathology as a neoplastic lesion, urinary tract infection, renal calculus, prostatic disease or glomerulonephritis. Anatomic imaging of the urinary tract with intravenous urography and cystoscopy is often indicated in the evaluation of the patient with hematuria. When hematuria is associated with red blood cell casts and/or heavy proteinuria, think of renal parenchymal lesions, particularly of glomerular origin.

An unusual case of fungus ball formation of Aspergillus in the bladder without any evidence of disseminated and renal aspergillosis is presented. A 49-year-old man whose chief complaint was progressively worsening dysuria after a stomach operation was admitted. Cystoscopy revealed many ball-like masses on the retrotrigone and left wall. Histological studies showed that these masses were composed of many Aspergilli. The uniqueness of the case and the route of infection are discussed.
