Erythroderma is a condition caused by several etiologies that result in red inflamed skin on 90% or more of the body surface. To optimize the diagnosis and management of the erythrodermic patient, healthcare professionals should be familiar with the underlying etiologies and treatment modalities. Patients with erythroderma require immediate attention as they may face a variety of medical complications. Early detection and effective management of these complications significantly reduce mortality and morbidity of this potential dermatologic emergency. This review highlights the underlying commo

BACKGROUND: Erythrodermic psoriasis (EP) is a severe and rare variant of psoriasis. Clinical features include scaling and erythema affecting more than 75% of body surface area, associated with systemic symptoms such as lymphadenopathy, arthralgia, fever, fatigue, dehydration, serum electrolyte disturbances, and tachycardia, making this condition a potentially life-threatening disease. Differential diagnosis can be challenging, encompasses atopic dermatitis, cutaneous adverse drug reaction, and advanced cutaneous lymphoma. Following a correct diagnostic framing, appropriate systemic treatment m

The diagnosis of scabies can be difficult when the infection presents as erythroderma. Crusted scabies is a severe form of scabies caused by cutaneous ectoparasitic infection by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis. Crusted scabies most commonly occurs in patients with underlying immunosuppression from acquired infection or subsequent to solid organ or bone marrow transplantation. We present a rare case of a patient with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) who developed azathioprine-induced myelosuppression and subsequent erythrodermic crusted scabies. It is critical to maintain a broad d

A 59-year-old man with a 35-year personal and positive family history of psoriasis was admitted to our department for treatment of psoriatic erythroderma. The patient had commenced therapy with enalapril 10 mg b.i.d. for the treatment of hypertension approximately 6 weeks before hospitalization. Five weeks after the initiation of enalapril, his psoriasis began to flare, and for a period of about 1 week it reached the extent of erythroderma. The patient did not associate the psoriatic flare with other factors such as infections, trauma, or stress. The patient presented with diffuse erythema and

INTRODUCTION: We report an original case of dermatomyositis associated with neoplasia, which initial clinical expression was erythroderma and multiple cutaneous necrosis.
OBSERVATION: A 64-year-old patient was admitted at hospital for erythroderma. He had a diffuse and inflammatory erythema with thrill, periorbital oedema, periungueal telangiectasia and epidermal necrosis. Physical examination also revealed symmetric proximal muscle weakness as well as hepatomegaly. There were biological signs of myolysis. Complementary investigations revealed a liver carcinoma with lung metastasis. The patie

Drug eruptions are common iatrogenic diseases. Although most of these conditions are benign and self-limited when use of the responsible drug is discontinued, several subtypes of drug eruptions are characterized by significant morbidity and mortality. The more dangerous types include erythroderma, leukocytoclastic vasculitis, anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Relatively few medications are repeatedly implicated in the pathogenesis of severe reactions. Prompt recognition of drug eruptions and early intervention are necessary to pr
