Characterization of tetracycline-resistant microbiome in soil-plant systems by combination of H218O-based DNA-Stable isotope probing and metagenomics.

The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance have been considered as a global health threat. However, effective methods to identify antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) in complex microbial community are lacking, and the potential transmission pathways of ARB and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the soil-plant system remain scarce. Here in this study, tetracycline was chosen as the target antibiotic due to its globally wide usage and clinical significance. DNA-based stable isotope probing with H218O was applied to identify the tetracycline-resistant bacteria from soil-plant systems. E

¹⁵N isotope tracing reveals Beauveria bassiana colonization promotes nitrogen use efficiency of maize under elevated CO₂.

While the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana is well known for its endophytic plant colonization and growth-promoting capabilities, its role in regulating plant nutrient dynamics, especially under climate change, remains poorly understood. This study investigated the interactive effects of B. bassiana colonization and elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) on nitrogen metabolism in maize. Open-top chambers were employed to simulate ambient and elevated (600 ppm) CO₂ conditions, combined with ¹ ⁵N isotope tracing to quantify nitrogen translocation, transformation and rhizosphere micr

Spontaneous adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon in Wistar rats: the intracytoplasmic presence of a Campylobacter-like bacterium.

Campylobacter-like bacteria were demonstrated in the neoplastic cells in 15 of 17 naturally occurring endophytic adenocarcinomas of the ascending colon in Wistar rats. These bacteria were also present in the cytoplasm in metastases in the regional lymph nodes. The microorganisms penetrated the epithelial layer and their presence was associated with a chronic productive inflammatory reaction. A possible causal association of Campylobacter-like organisms in carcinoma of the colon in man and in the Wistar rat is discussed.

Enhanced terpenoid synthesis in Alternaria alstroemeriae PPL7 via co-fermentation with Paeonia lactiflora roots: integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis.

Total glucosides of paeony (TGP), primarily composed of monoterpene glycosides such as paeoniflorin and albiflorin, possess diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. Traditional extraction from plants is limited by long growth cycles and low active content. This study employs an integrated metabolomics and transcriptomics strategy to systematically elucidate the molecular regulatory network underlying the biosynthesis of terpenoids by the Paeonia lactiflora leaf endophytic fungus Alternaria alstroemeriae PPL7 within a root co-fermentation syst

Cell Wall Dynamics in Haustorial Development of Cuscuta campestris During Parasitism on Differentially Susceptible Hosts.

Dodder (Cuscuta campestris) is a parasitic plant that causes severe economic losses to crops such as mung bean (Vigna radiata), although some species, including tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), exhibit varying degrees of resistance. Dodder parasitism begins with the development of the haustorium, whose endophytic primordium undergoes intrusive growth to penetrate host tissues. While the cell walls of endophytic cells are essential for invasion, the sequential changes occurring in these cell walls are not fully understood. This study aims to characterize cell wall modifications in Cuscuta campest

Proliferating inverted follicular keratosis of genital skin: Case series of a challenging variant.

BACKGROUND: Inverted follicular keratosis (IFK) is a benign cutaneous epithelial tumor typically presenting as a small papule on the head and neck. We have encountered deep endophytic tumors on genital skin with some characteristics of IFK but also atypical features, raising concern for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). METHODS: Four such tumors were identified in our database. Histopathologic analysis and ancillary studies were performed. RESULTS: All patients were young women who presented with a solitary 0.5-1.0 cm lesion on the vulva, perineum, or inner buttock. Each showed a squamous proli

Comparative "Omics" of the Fusarium fujikuroi Species Complex Highlights Differences in Genetic Potential and Metabolite Synthesis.

Species of the Fusarium fujikuroi species complex (FFC) cause a wide spectrum of often devastating diseases on diverse agricultural crops, including coffee, fig, mango, maize, rice, and sugarcane. Although species within the FFC are difficult to distinguish by morphology, and their genes often share 90% sequence similarity, they can differ in host plant specificity and life style. FFC species can also produce structurally diverse secondary metabolites (SMs), including the mycotoxins fumonisins, fusarins, fusaric acid, and beauvericin, and the phytohormones gibberellins, auxins, and cytokinins.

Isolation of the new polyketide (-)-R-talaropinophiloic acid guided by an integrated metabolomics-dereplication approach.

As part of our ongoing bioprospecting program targeting endophytic fungi, the strain Talaromyces pinophilus J6 was isolated from Euphorbia umbellata. The endophyte metabolic potential was evaluated through a combined metabolomics-dereplication workflow based on an in-house high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) database of Talaromyces metabolites. The strategy enabled rapid annotation of seven metabolites (a-g), allowing rapid characterization of the fungal metabolome and guiding the isolation of potentially new specialized metabolites. Chromatographic fractionation of the crude extract from

Effects of seed infection by Fusarium verticillioides on maize performance against Sesamia nonagrioides attack.

In maize (Zea mays L), the fungus Fusarium verticillioides can behave as a pathogen, but it is also able of asymptomatic colonization as an endophyte. Therefore, it would be of great value to identify metabolites and/or metabolic pathways implicated in mutualistic and pathogenic interactions. The objectives of the present study were: (i) to investigate the effect of seed colonization by F. verticillioides on maize growth in a group of inbreds with contrasting resistance to F. verticillioides; (ii) to know if maize priming by Fusarium seed infection affects maize response to other parasites and

RE-EVALUATION OF SYMPOVENTURIACEAE.

Abstract Sympoventuriaceae (Venturiales, Dothideomycetes) comprises genera including saprophytes, endophytes, plant pathogens, as well as important animal or human opportunistic pathogens with diverse ecologies and wide geographical distributions. Although the taxonomy of Sympoventuriaceae has been well studied, generic boundaries within the family remain poorly resolved due to the lack of type materials and molecular data. To address this issue and establish a more stable and reliable classification system in Sympoventuriaceae, we performed multi-locus phylogenetic analyses using sequence dat…

Optimization of fermentation conditions for Metarhizium robertsii and its effect on rice growth.

UNLABELLED: Metarhizium robertsii ARSEF 23 is a significant insect-pathogenic fungus and plant-associated endophyte, with dual roles as an insect-control agent and plant growth-enhancing agent that have fueled its extensive use in agricultural practices. However, the growth-promoting impacts of M. robertsii (referred to as MAA) on rice, and their underlying mechanisms are still not fully clarified. This research verified the growth-enhancing effects of both MAA itself and its fermented supernatant on rice plants. By means of single-factor tests and response surface methodology, the fermentatio
