OBJECTIVE: The risk factors for postnatal depressive symptoms (PNDS) are numerous, but little is known about the protective factors or the interactions between different exposures. The present study explored the pathways between maternal, infant and parenthood vulnerabilities or risk/protective factors and PNDS at 2 months postpartum (PP) in a large sample of women from the general population.
METHODS: We used data from the French ELFE cohort, a nationally representative cohort of children followed-up from birth. The available information about vulnerabilities or risk/protective factors for P

This study explores the effects of bodily states on emotions based on embodied cognition theories of conceptual metaphor and feelings-as-information theory. Specifically, it investigates how physical suffocation induced by mask-wearing affects perceptions of emotional suffocation related to one's romantic relationship and financial situation. In this quantitative online experiment, we employed a convenience sampling method through a crowdsourcing platform. Adult participants (N = 180, 25 years or older and involved in a romantic relationship) were randomly assigned to three conditions: wearing

Individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a chronic and disabling psychiatric disorder, experience high rates of occupational impairment. OCD symptoms commonly affect individuals' vocational aspirations and result in disability and the need for financial support, problems that are not addressed by current clinical practice guideline recommendations for treating OCD. This Open Forum highlights the need to address occupational impairment caused by OCD and makes the case for formally evaluating whether evidence-based supported employment can help individuals with OCD find and succeed …

Every day, women survive physical or sexual violence. Some survive as a result of services they receive in the aftermath of the abuse. The study presented here explored women's experiences of victimization and their use of and perceptions about the services they received. It is learned that what providers usually prioritize and what the women in this study used-namely emotional, psychological, and legal support-are not what these women identified as the most helpful. Instead, tangible supports, such as food, housing, and financial assistance, were viewed as the most helpful, along with religio

Sickle cell disease (SCD) can cause both physical and psychological complications, such as severe pain and depression. These effects often necessitate social and caregiving support. Few studies have assessed support networks within the adult SCD population. Here, we describe the support networks of adults with SCD and identify who in these networks (1) provides emotional support, (2) is dependable during crisis situations, including social and financial adversities, and (3) provides assistance in health crises. Forty-nine adults with SCD completed surveys and social network assessments through

Background/Objectives: Using healthcare vouchers mitigates the financial burdens of low-income individuals, therefore enhancing mothers' satisfaction and encouraging service utilization. In Yemen, reducing financial barriers results in marked improvement in reproductive health services utilization for mothers and their newborns. Such financial strain can be addressed through reproductive health vouchers, which reduce out-of-pocket expenses of family planning, pregnancy, birth, postnatal care and neonatal care. This study compares the Safe Motherhood and Family Planning Voucher Program in the L

INTRODUCTION: Despite growing attention to structural approaches to HIV prevention, including economic empowerment interventions for key populations, few studies examine the financial lives of women engaged in sex work (WESW) and even fewer examine the financial lives of those who also use drugs. The purpose of this paper is to examine the financial status, sex work involvement, and individual and structural vulnerabilities of women involved in sex work and drug use in Kazakhstan.
METHODS: We used baseline data from Project Nova, a cluster-randomized controlled trial that tested the efficacy

Due to significant differences in healthcare structure between the United States and Canada, there are unique barriers to adopting new medical technology in Canada. In this article, we describe our experience developing a transoral robotic surgery (TORS) program at Western University. Specifically, we outline the steps that were necessary to obtain institutional and multidisciplinary team approval, financial support, as well as surgeon and allied healthcare personnel training. This experience can potentially be used as a roadmap for other Canadian institutions pursuing a TORS program.

Trigeminal neuralgia was the focus of a recent workshop convened by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The workshop brought together basic scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, and patient advocates. New research directions for epidemiology, diagnosis and assessment, pain mechanisms, and treatment were identified. (The workshop was held in Rockville MD on September 14, 1999, with financial support from NINDS, NIDCR, the NIH Office of Rare Diseases, and the NIH Pain Research Consortium.)

INTRODUCTION: Timely access to medical care is essential for maintaining public health. However, many individuals deliberately avoid seeking medical attention, resulting in poorer health outcomes and increased healthcare costs. Understanding the underlying reasons for medical care avoidance is therefore crucial for developing effective healthcare interventions and policies.
AIM: This study aimed to identify, analyse, and prioritise the interrelated factors contributing to medical care avoidance in European countries classified as developing countries according to the OECD definition, using an

BACKGROUND: Cancer places a substantial burden on patients and healthcare systems, highlighting the need for patient-centered care models. Home-based oncology care has emerged as a strategy to improve quality of life (QoL). The ONConsigo project, implemented in Portugal in June 2023, delivers systemic cancer treatment at home.
METHODS: This observational cohort study included patients enrolled in the ONConsigo program. QoL was assessed using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the Personal Well-Being Index (P
