Ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP) is currently the most common marine biotoxin food poisoning worldwide, associated with human consumption of circumtropical fish and marine invertebrates that are contaminated with ciguatoxins. Ciguatoxins are very potent sodium-channel activator neurotoxins, that pose risks to human health at very low concentrations (>0.01 ng per g of fish flesh in the case of the most potent Pacific ciguatoxin). Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) is an important enterotoxin which is a major reason for food poisoning and a potential biologic agent. Hence, rapid and accurate detection is very important. An amplified luminescent proximity homogeneous assay (AlphaLISA) for SEB detection was established here. Its performance was evaluated on mock specimen and culture supernatant. Its free from the effect of protein A was compared with ELISA. Results showed that the linear range for SEB detection was 25 pg/mL to 25 ng/mL. The detection limitation is 25 pg/mL in buffer and 50 pg/mL in specimen respectively.

Fenazaquin is a non-systemic acaricide/insecticide used widely in controlling mites and other related pests in fruits, vegetables and tea. The objective of this research was to investigate the disappearance trend in tea of fenazaquin residue level and its transfer in brew. Fenazaquin was applied on a tea crop at two rates, 125 and 250 g AI/ha in wet and dry seasons under field conditions. Seven cases of Reye's syndrome in which aflatoxin B1 was isolated from the blood or liver or both are presented. In two cases aflatoxin B1 was found in the blood during the acute phase of the disease; a finding not previously reported. In six cases aflatoxin B1 was recovered from autopsy specimens of liver.
