Sliding hip screws (SHSs) are commonly used for the operative treatment of extracapsular neck of femur fractures. We report 2 rare cases of intrapelvic migration of an SHS, resultant of non-unions, threatening regional major vessels. Only a handful of such cases have previously been reported in the literature. We provide an up-to-date review of the literature, propose rationale for how a lag screw may migrate, and suggest how this complication can be prevented.

This case report discusses the functional outcomes and multidisciplinary coordination of care for a patient with hemiplegia due to stroke complicated by a migrated inferior vena cava (IVC) filter embedded in the right side of the heart. The patient suffered an acute right-sided stroke with hemorrhagic transformation requiring hemicraniectomy with left hemiplegia. The patient developed a subsequent pulmonary embolism requiring IVC filter placement as anticoagulation was contraindicated due to risk of further intracranial hemorrhage. The IVC filter was later identified bridging the tricuspid val

Antrochoanal polyp is usually a benign solitary mass lesion originated from maxillary sinus mucosa and emerging through maxillary ostium. We report a rare case of antrochoanal polyp and migrated dental implant in the ipsilateral maxillary sinus. Clinicians should be aware that ACP may have other concomitant conditions such as migrated dental implants.

BACKGROUND: Adjustable gastric banding (AGB) is on the decline due to its relatively modest amount of expected weight loss, coupled with high rates of revision and complications such as band erosion. Management of eroded gastric bands can be challenging especially when complete intra-gastric erosion is followed by distal migration causing small bowel obstruction.
METHODS: We present an endoscopic option of using a pediatric colonoscope to remove an eroded AGB causing jejunal obstruction.
RESULT: Endoscopic removal of an eroded ABG causing bowel obstruction was successful.
CONCLUSION: Endosc

We present the case of a 60-year-old man with a complex medical history, presenting to the hospital with generalized weakness and found to be markedly hyperglycemic. Early in the patient's hospital course, he developed abdominal pain and was found to have a small bowel obstruction secondary to intraluminal migrated surgical mesh entrapped in the terminal ileum. The bowel obstruction was relieved surgically with uncomplicated mesh removal and ileocecectomy. Surgical mesh migration is a relatively rare complication of hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction, and intraluminal mesh migrati

BACKGROUND: Perforated duodenal ulcers can be treated with a covered stent. Stent migration is a severe complication, sometimes requiring surgery. Pyloric physiology during stent treatment has not been studied and mechanisms for migration are unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the pyloric response to distention, mimicking stent treatment, using the EndoFLIP.
METHODS: A nonsurvival study in five pigs was carried out, followed by a pilot study in one volunteer. Animals were gastroscoped during anaesthesia and the EndoFLIP was placed straddling the pylorus. Baseline distensibility

Background: Needle-guided localization wire is widely used to locate non-palpable breast lesion before surgery. A rare complication of this technique is wire migration. We report a case of an intrathoracic hooked wire migration in a 41-year-old female treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).Methods: We report a recent patient history and we review the cases reported in the literature. Results: Hook removal by thoracoscopy seemed to be the less invasive and most effective approach for this stable case. Even asymptomatic migration should be treated, and the device removed. The less

BACKGROUND: In modern gynecology an intrauterine device (IUD) with levonorgestrel is often used as a method of contraception. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system is small and T-shaped. In Slovenia, only a gynecologist may insert it. CASES: We present 2 clinical cases in which, despite strong evidence that no perforation had occurred during insertion, the IUD was found outside the uterus. If the IUD threads are not visible or the IUD cannot be located in the uterine cavity, an X-ray of the abdomen must be performed. If the IUD is found in the abdominal cavity outside the uterus, re

A 19-year-old patient presented to the clinic, and we inserted a single rod subdermal etonogestrel implant (Nexplanon ®), which subsequently migrated to the ipsilateral axilla. Distant Nexplanon® migration is a rare serious complication that should be considered when a device is nonpalpable. Management options are discussed.

OBJECTIVE: Few cases of medial migration of tympanostomy tubes have been reported and its optimal management has not been well delineated especially in asymptomatic patients. The aim of this review is to present all cases of medialized tympanostomy tubes reported in the literature in order to provide the most beneficial management option.
METHODS: Eligible articles were identified through a comprehensive search in Cochrane, Embase and Medline electronic databases. Two reviewers independently screened the data sources, using pre-defined inclusion criteria to generate a list of eligible article

A 67-year-old patient with a casual diagnosis of a foreign body within the frontal sinus outreaching the frontal cerebral parenchyma was treated. Results of anamnestic examination revealed that the patient underwent rhinoplasty with condrocostal implant of the nasal dorsum fixed to the anterior wall of the frontal sinus using a Kirschner wire 2 years ago. A combined transnasal endoscopic and transcranic approach was performed to remove the foreign body.

The term gossypiboma is used to describe a mass of cotton matrix left behind in a body cavity intraoperatively. The most common site reported is the abdominal cavity. It can present with abscess, intestinal obstruction, malabsorption, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and fistulas. A 37-year-old woman presented with pain in the right hypochondrium for 2 months following open cholecystectomy. As she did not improve with proton pump inhibitors, an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) was done, which showed a possible gauze piece stained with bile in the first part of the duodenum. BACKGROUND: We report two cases of unilateral upper eyelid swelling with multiple small lumps as an unusual complication of autogenous fat injection for cosmetic forehead augmentation.
CASE PRESENTATION: Two female patients were referred to our clinic for unusual unilateral eyelid swelling, with multiple small lumps. The duration of symptoms differed in each case, but both patients had a history of autogenous fat injection for cosmetic forehead augmentation at a local plastic surgery clinic. The lumps were small (diameter 5 mm~10 mm), palpable, hard, and nonmobile, and were evaluated by magne

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: It is generally thought that an internal short stent placed across the pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) following pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) usually passes spontaneously through the rectum thereafter; however, we experienced some patients who presented with pancreatitis and cholangitis owing to delayed defecation of the stent. The purpose of this study was to clarify when the stent eventually became detached from the PJ and how it passed through the body until it was finally defecated. In addition, we also investigated the factors that may prevent such detachment and defecation.

Transradial percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been associated with a lower incidence of major access site related complications. With the increased implementation of transradial approach in complex PCI, stent dislodgement is unavoidable in any interventionalists' career. Stent retrieval is different in a transradial approach as compared to a transfemoral approach because of the former's smaller arterial size. In this review, we outline the different stent retrieval techniques with considerations from transradial access.

Totally implantable venous access devices are widely used in pediatric oncology. The authors encountered a 10-year-old boy with implantation of the device at the age of 7 years owing to acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In the recent half-year, the device was not used except for regular heparin flushing. However, hydrothorax occurred when fluid therapy was required from the device during this admission. Thoracoscopic approach showed extravascular migration and intrapleural malposition of the catheter. Intrapleural migration of the extravascular portion of the catheter owing to irritation and press

INTRODUCTION: Heart injuries can be classified as penetrating and non-penetrating (blunt). Penetrating wounds are usually caused by stabbing with a piercing object, weapon or projectiles--missiles. The right atrium is damaged in most cases, because of its anatomical position--making the most of the anterior side of the heart. Morbidity caused by stabbing injuries to the heart is 20%-30%, while piercing wounds cause 30%-60% of deaths.
CASE REPORT: . A 28-year-old patient was admitted to our clinic with acute ischemia of the extremities. Angiography revealed a bullet in the right common femoral
