Importance of pain perception after mucogingival surgery in multiple Miller class III/RT2 gingival recessions: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Although postoperative pain after mucogingival surgery can modify the patient's daily life, few studies have compared daily postoperative pain in mucogingival surgery considering patient characteristics. The aim of this study was to evaluate postoperative pain in 24 patients with Miller class III/RT2 multiple recessions treated with the modified VISTA (m-VISTA) versus the coronally advanced flap (CAF) with a connective tissue graft (CTG). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data related to pain intensity (PI), pain duration (PD), analgesic drug intake (AI), and time of analgesic need (TAN) were

Evaluation of a New Porcine Collagen Matrix for the Treatment of Buccal Gingival Recessions: A 12-Month Pilot Prospective Human Study Model.

A 12-month prospective consecutive case series study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel porcine collagen matrix to correct moderate to severe buccogingival recession defects. A total of 10 healthy patients (8 women and 2 men; age range: 30 to 68 years) with 26 maxillary and mandibular recession gingival defects > 4 mm deep were included. Healthy maturation of gingival tissues with natural color and texture matching the adjacent soft tissue areas were observed at all reevaluation visits. Complete root coverage was not achieved in all cases, possibly due to severe buccal bone…

Acellular dermal matrix for root coverage procedures: 9-year assessment of treated isolated gingival recessions and their adjacent untreated sites.

BACKGROUND: The long-term outcomes of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) for the treatment of isolated gingival recessions has not yet been evaluated. Thus, the aim of this study was to observe the root coverage outcomes of coronally advanced flap with ADM over time, and compare them with their adjacent untreated sites. METHODS: Twelve patients (from 20) were available at the 9-year recall. Clinical parameters (recession depth, mean root coverage [mRC], keratinized tissue width [KTW], and gingival thickness) were evaluated and compared with the 1-year results, and the ADM-adjacent untreated sites …

A Modified Bilaminar Technique with the Use of a Fibrin-Fibronectin System for a Single Gingival Recession: A Case Report with a Follow-Up of 3 Years.

This case report described a modified bilaminar technique for treating a single gingival recession. Patient presented a gingival recession in a maxillary canine. Tooth was in a buccally prominent position and soft keratinized tissue apical to the recession was reduced but still present. A split-full-split thickness trapezoidal flap was designed. Root's surface was prepared with curettes. Epithelial-connective tissue graft was harvested from the palate with reduced dimension. After deepithelialization, the graft was placed with a fibrin-fibronectin system at the maximum root coverage level, and…

The influence of tooth location on the outcomes of multiple adjacent gingival recessions treated with coronally advanced flap: A multicenter re-analysis study.

BACKGROUND: Tooth location has been shown to play a significant role on root coverage outcomes. However, whether this has an impact on the outcomes of coronally advanced flap (CAF) for treating multiple adjacent gingival recessions (MAGRs) remains to be determined. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of tooth location, flap design, and flap extension on the outcomes of MAGRs following CAF with or without a connective tissue graft (CTG). METHODS: A re-analysis of six previously published clinical trials evaluating the outcomes of CAF in the treatment of MAGRs was performed usin…

Novel Surgical Approach for Root Coverage of Single Deep Recessions on Mandibular Incisors: Gingival Pedicle With Split-Thickness Tunnel Technique.

INTRODUCTION: Gingival recession is a very common mucogingival defect in the adult population, with mandibular central and lateral incisors being the most frequently affected teeth. Limited information is available about the management of isolated deep recession lesions in the mandibular anterior area, where the predictability of the root coverage is reduced by unfavorable anatomical conditions. The purpose of this case report is to present a novel surgical technique for deep labial recessions on mandibular incisors, based on a gingival pedicle with split-thickness tunneling (GPST), in combina…

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Gingival Recession and Abrasion in Periodontally Healthy and Diseased Cohort Referred to Dental Teaching Clinic in Baghdad: A Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Gingival recession (GR) is the apical displacement of the gingival margin, while gingival abrasion (GA) is the pathologic wear of gingiva by a foreign substance/object. Both can result in exposure of the root surface and can be associated with sensitivity, caries and compromised aesthetics. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for GR/GA among patients referred to the teaching dental clinic in Baghdad. METHODS: Three hundred and seventy-two subjects diagnosed with periodontal health, gingivitis, and periodontitis were recruited. Self-reported demographi…

Comparative evaluation of vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access and coronally advanced flap in adjunction with platelet-rich fibrin for maxillary gingival recession - A randomized controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Gingival recession requires root coverage to address esthetics and dentinal hypersensitivity, prevent root caries and abrasion, and improve plaque control. The coronally advanced flap (CAF) with subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) is a widely accepted gold standard but is technique sensitive and less predictable. The vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (VISTA) technique is a minimally invasive alternative that yields more predictable results and better patient compliance. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) as a membrane for covering defects is less technique sensitive …
