[Vitiligoid hypopigmented macules and tumor of the follicular infundibulum].

Tumor of the follicular infundibulum is an uncommon cutaneous lesion with different forms of clinical presentation, namely solitary and multiple/eruptive variants. The former shows predilection for head and neck and presents as a papulonodular scaly tumor. The latter is less frequent and occurs on facial, neck and upper chest areas as brown, reddish or more commonly hypopigmented macules leading to the differential diagnosis with vitiligo. The different clinical forms share the same histopathologic aspect. The present report describes a case of the multiple variant of tumor of the follicular i

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome: vesicle formation from yeast to man.

The disorders known as Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) are a group of genetic diseases resulting from abnormal formation of intracellular ve … four known HPS-causing genes have homologs in mice, a species with 14 different models of HPS, i.e. hypopigmentation and a platelet storage pool deficiency. Pursuit of the mechanism of mammalian vesicle formation and trafficking, impaired in HPS, relies upon investigation of these mouse models as well as studies of protein complexes involved in yeast vacuole forma …

Hypomelanosis of Ito: a syndrome requiring a multisystem approach.

Hypomelanosis of Ito can be defined as a syndrome providing a cutaneous epiphenomenon with a peculiar pattern of distribution, usually associated with disorders of the nervous system, skeleton and eyes. Four further patients are reported and the literature reviewed. The diagnostic criteria and the differences with other pigmentary diseases distributed along Blaschko's lines are highlighted. The main histopathological features are reported and the high frequency of the associated abnormalities are emphasized. The chromosomal findings and main genetic hypotheses are discussed. The suggested foll

Tinosporide promotes melanogenesis via activation of cAMP/PKA/CREB-MITF signaling in B16F10 and SK-MEL-2 cells.

Hypopigmentation disorders are characterized by impaired melanogenesis and remain challenging to manage due to limited efficacy of current interventions and insufficient mechanistic insights. Natural products represent a valuable source of bioactive phytoconstituents capable of regulating key pathways involved in melanin synthesis. Despite its extensive traditional use and diverse pharmacological activities, Tinospora cordifolia and its major bioactive constituent tinosporide remain unexplored for their role in melanogenesis. The present study aimed to evaluate the melanogenesis-promoting pote…

Acute toxicity of sulfur mustard and its degradation products to Danio rerio embryos.

Sulfur mustard (HD) is an organosulfur chemical warfare agent that is present in marine environments due to historical dumping of munitions. … th OECD Test No. 236 guidelines. Mortality and developmental endpoints, including hatching success, hypopigmentation, and morphological defects, were assessed. HD exhibited the highest toxicity, with a 96-h LC50 of 0.48 mg/L, classifying it as very toxic to aquatic organisms. Among degradation products, 1,2,5-TTP (LC40 = 7.14 mg/L, toxic) and 1,4,5-ODT (LC50 = 13. …

A retrospective study of clinical and histopathological characteristics in patients with pityriasis lichenoides: A comparative analysis of pediatric and adult cases.

Pityriasis lichenoides (PL) is a rare inflammatory skin disorder of unknown etiology, comprising a spectrum of 2 clinical variants: pityrias … rmatological findings. Papular lesions were significantly more frequent in adults (P = .024), while hypopigmentation was observed exclusively in children (P = .024). No significant differences were noted between the 2 groups in terms of lesion distribution, histopathological subtype, or disease severity. During follow-up, 23 patients (56.1%) were lost to follow-up …

Deciphering the intricate dynamics of inflammasome regulation in visceral and post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis: A meta-analysis of consistencies.

Post Kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) arises as a significant dermal sequel following Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) caused by protozoan p … of the immune-inflammasomal network not only facilitates LD persistence but also leads to the skin hypopigmentation seen in PKDL, impacting social well-being. Activation of inflammasomal markers like STAT1, NLRP1, NLRP3, AIM2, CASP11, and NLRP12 have been identified as a common host-defense mechanism across various Leishmania infections. Conversely, Leishmania mo …
