Evaluation of a multi-pronged intervention to improve access to safe abortion care in two districts in Jharkhand.

BACKGROUND: Despite the adoption of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act in 1972, access to safe abortion services remains limited in India. Awareness of the legality of abortion also remains low, leading many women to seek services outside the health system. Medical abortion (MA) is an option that has the potential to expand access to safe abortion services. A multi-pronged intervention covering a population of 161,000 in 253 villages in the Silli and Khunti blocks of Jharkhand was conducted between 2007 and 2009, seeking to improve medical abortion services and create awareness at the co

Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma-Informed Care in Rehabilitation Clinical Practice.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) contribute to physical, behavioral, and mental health issues throughout the lifespan and, because of their prevalence, constitute a significant public health issue. Practitioners in all health care disciplines need to be knowledgeable about ACEs and prepared to address them. ACEs can contribute to conditions that lead patients to seek rehabilitation care, and therefore a framework is needed that enables rehabilitation professionals to understand the effects of ACEs and how to discuss them with patients. This article summarizes ACE research and its clinical

Urinary incontinence among women in sub-Saharan Africa - an overview.

Urinary Incontinence, the uncontrolled or involuntary loss of urine, is a prevalent condition among women that is frequently underdiagnosed and underreported, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The social stigma attached to urinary incontinence contributes to low presentation rates for care, and the help-seeking behavior of SSA women with urinary incontinence in this region. Thus, the occurrence of urinary incontinence imposes a considerable burden on women in SSA, leading to physical, social, and psychological complications. A multitude of challenges, such as limited availability of ur

A community-based telephone survey of panic disorder in Hong Kong.

Panic disorder (PD) is prevalent, impairing, under-recognized, and often mistreated. Previous surveys in Chinese communities indicate very low prevalence estimates and provide limited information about its clinical characteristics. A random telephone survey of the general population (age range, 15-60 years) in Hong Kong was conducted using a questionnaire that generated the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-IV-based diagnosis of PD, its symptom profile, help-seeking behavior, and health visit expenditure. Of 3,004 interviews successfully completed, 3.89% of participan

Modeling the impact of community information dissemination on the transmission dynamics of lymphatic filariasis.

The World Health Organization has underscored the importance of implementing sustained and integrated interventions to interrupt the transmission of lymphatic filariasis (LF); however, achieving this goal requires a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the disease. In this study, we propose a deterministic mathematical model to investigate the transmission and control of LF, incorporating key factors including treated and untreated individuals, community information dissemination, immature and mature mosquito populations. We fitted the LF model to data using reported LF cases in Ghana from

Zostavax vaccine effectiveness among US elderly using real-world evidence: Addressing unmeasured confounders by using multiple imputation after linking beneficiary surveys with Medicare claims.

PURPOSE: Medicare claims can provide real-world evidence (RWE) to support the Food and Drug Administration's ability to conduct postapproval studies to validate products' safety and effectiveness. However, Medicare claims do not contain comprehensive information on some important sources of bias. Thus, we piloted an approach using the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS), a nationally representative survey of the Medicare population, to (a) assess cohort balance with respect to unmeasured confounders in a herpes zoster vaccine (HZV) effectiveness claims-based study and (b) augment Medica

Insights Into Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction (R-CPD) Through Analysis of Internet Search Pattern.

OBJECTIVES: To assess public awareness and interest in retrograde cricopharyngeus dysfunction (R-CPD) in the United States by analyzing trends in internet search behavior. METHODS: Using Google Trends, data from Google Search queries from the United States related to R-CPD between January 2013 to May 2024 were obtained. The means of RSV from 2013 to 2018 were compared to RSV from 2019 (when R-CPD was officially defined) to the present. Comparisons of the RSV means between these two periods were performed using paired t-tests with p value < 0.05 considered statistically significant. RESULTS:

Referral and Utilization of Mental Health Services by Older Adults With Cancer and Factors Influencing Referral From Health Professionals.

OBJECTIVE: Older adults with cancer commonly experience psychological distress. However, the rate at which they receive mental health services is low, and reasons are inconsistently documented. This study aims to characterize adults with cancer referred to mental health services, explore how age influences referrals, and examine factors influencing healthcare professionals' referrals within the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, and Behavior (COM-B) model. METHODS: We retrospectively collected data from 557 adults with cancer referred to the Clinical Psychology Department at Peter MacCallum

Psychological Competences Mediating the Adoption of Health Behaviors in Adults Through Internet, Social Media and Online Games: A Systematic Review.

Digital technologies such as the Internet, social media, and online games have become integral to an adult's everyday life, yet their implications for health-related behaviors remain the subject of ongoing debate. While existing research has extensively examined risks and benefits of digital media use, evidence focused specifically on adult populations and on the psychological processes supporting health-oriented engagement remains fragmented. This systematic review with narrative synthesis, conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines, examined peer-reviewed studies published between 2

Atypical contributions of reward decisions to momentary mood in individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) are often accompanied by severe mood dysregulation, leading to more frequent irrational decisions such as drug-seeking behavior. Existing research indicates that the impairment of the reward system is central to the development of addiction. However, it remains unclear how the abnormal reward processing affects the mood regulation abilities of individuals with MUD. In this study, we explored the cognitive and computational mechanisms through which the subjective mood of individuals with MUD is influenced by reward information duri

Public concerns about human metapneumovirus: insights from Google search trends, X social networks, and web news mining to enhance public health communication.

The respiratory virus known as human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is linked to seasonal outbreaks and primarily affects elderly people and young children. Infodemiology, which uses digital data sources, including social media, online news, and search trends, is a useful substitute for monitoring public concerns and risk perceptions because surveillance gaps and underreporting impede public health interventions despite their clinical value. To assess public search interest, we analyzed global search behavior between June 1, 2024, and June 1, 2025, and examined over 1.3 million tweets collected during

Clinical, psychological, social, and family characterization of suicidal behavior in Chilean adolescents: a multiple correspondence analysis.

Introduction Suicide is the second leading cause of premature death in people between 15 and 29 years old and the third in young people between 15 and 19 years old. Adolescence is a critical period concerning mental health disorders since there is greater vulnerability to suicidal behaviors. The situation in Latin America is worrying, with Chile being one of the two countries where suicide rates of children and adolescents increase yearly. This study aims to analyze clinical, psychological, family, and social risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in a clinical sample of adolescents tr

ACT-R based human digital twin to enhance operators' performance in process industries.

To ensure safe and efficient operation, operators in process industries have to make timely decisions based on time-varying information. A holistic assessment of operators' performance is, therefore, challenging. Current approaches to operator performance assessment are subjective and ignore operators' cognitive behavior. In addition, these cannot be used to predict operators' expected responses during novel situations that may arise during plant operations. The present study seeks to develop a human digital twin (HDT) that can simulate a control room operator's behavior, even during various a

The impact of negative life events on aggressive behavior in college students: the mediating role of anger rumination and hostile attribution bias.

PURPOSE: This study seeks to investigate the extent to which negative life events function as predictors of aggressive behavior among college students, while further elucidating the potential mediating mechanisms involving anger rumination and hostile attribution bias. The findings provide scientific evidence for understanding and addressing the college students' aggressive behavior. METHODS: Using a convenience sample of 651 college students, data were collected via the Adolescent Life Events Checklist (ASLEC), the Chinese version of the Anger Rumination Scale (ARS), the Wariness and Hostile

Quality and guideline concordance of neonatal jaundice information on short-video platforms: implications for parental education and newborn safety.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal jaundice requires timely management to prevent neurological sequelae. Effective parental education is essential for early recognition of warning signs and appropriate care-seeking behavior. As parents increasingly turn to short-video platforms for health information, pediatricians need to understand the quality of content shaping parental knowledge. This study evaluated the quality, reliability, and guideline-based completeness of neonatal jaundice videos on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) and Bilibili. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis of 180 videos (Bilibili: 10

Parents' Risk Acceptance and Attitudes Toward the Use of Quad Bikes by Children and Young People in Sweden.

HIGHLIGHTS: Parents did not see themselves as role models for children regarding use of quad bikes. Parents seemed to misjudge their children's maturity and capabilities. Risk acceptance was a common issue, due to risk normalization. There is a need for an age limit for drivers of adult-size quad bikes. ABSTRACT: When seeking to explain the many accidents involving children on quad bikes, it is critical to understand the norms and risk perceptions of their parents, because parents are responsible for their children's safety. This study explored attitudes and behavior among parents of rural ch

Uncovering the determinants of health in deprived urban neighborhoods in Accra, Ghana: a qualitative and participatory reconnaissance study.

BACKGROUND: Delivering primary care services within the context of rapid urbanization and a changing disease burden is a major challenge in sub-Saharan Africa. Rural models of primary care, including the "Community-based Health Planning and Services" (CHPS) programme in Ghana, have shown improved health outcomes. However, adapting these to the urban context has proved problematic. Differences in the determinants of health found in these settings may help to explain the challenges of delivering CHPS in poor urban neighborhoods in Accra. To inform the redesign of CHPS for the urban context, we a

Real-world survey of eating attitudes and spending behaviors related to healthy foods/supplements in women seeking to become pregnant.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Since 2022, fertility treatments have been partially covered by insurance in Japan. Women who wish to become pregnant may explore various means of conception as fertility treatments have shown low success rates. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the state of knowledge, behavior, and attitudes toward health foods among women who are actively trying to become pregnant. METHODS: A web-based research company surveyed the eating attitudes and behaviors towards healthy foods of 900 women seeking to become pregnant. Regression analysis for the total amount spent on pregnancy was cond
