Chlorogenic acid (CA) is one of the active ingredients in some Chinese herbal injections, which may cause allergic reactions in clinic therapy. However, the criterion of test for allergen had not been employed in current Pharmacopeia of United States, European Pharmacopeia, Japanese Pharmacopeia and British Pharmacopeia. Intravascular injection of dissolved medicinal preparations such as crushed tablets is associated with a risk of injecting particulate material into the vasculature. This particulate material will naturally pass to the lungs where it will be largely filtered out in the pulmonary vascular bed, and in turn, it can result in a range of pathological processes in the lungs including pulmonary arterial hypertension, granulomatous lung disease, and pulmonary fibrosis. On rare occasions, a rapid increase in pulmonary vascular resistance can result in sudden death of the injecting drug user.

RATIONALE: Cocaine is often abused in a "binge" pattern, but little is known about changes in plasma cocaine concentrations or cocaine pharmacokinetics during administration of multiple cocaine doses. Moreover, the extent to which gender may influence plasma cocaine levels during a cocaine binge has not been studied in rhesus monkeys.

The distribution of aspirin and salicylate 30 min after the intravenous administration of different doses of aspirin has been investigated in the rabbit eye. HPLC enabled a rapid and sensitive determination of both substances. A considerable dose-dependent penetration into all ocular tissues was observed with both aspirin and salicylate. Aspirin concentrations were higher than in plasma in all ocular tissues with the exception of the lens. These results show that an unhydrolysed drug may have a direct local effect by acetylating lens protein or other ocular constituents.

This report describes studies of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25OHD3) kinetics in 10 yearling crossbred wethers (40 to 52 kg body weight) administered [3H] 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [( 3H] 250HD3). Nausea and vomiting have not been clearly associated with parenteral acyclovir. We report a pediatric patient who developed nausea and vomiting apparently associated with intravenous acyclovir therapy. The child received acyclovir (1500 mg/m2/d) for treatment of recurrent varicella zoster with possible dissemination. Nausea and vomiting could be attributed only to acyclovir therapy. Discontinuing the drug resulted in a resolution of the adverse symptoms.
