Sensitization to dust mite allergens can be determined by means of a skin-prick test (SPT) or by measurement of specific IgE antibodies in serum (sIgE). In our study, concordance of the results of both methods was analyzed on the basis of reproducible SPT results. BACKGROUND: Asthma induced by the inhalation of food vapors is unusual and indicative of extreme allergy. Identification of the specific cause and subsequent avoidance is essential.
METHODS: We report a patient with asthma who had status asthmaticus following inhalation of boiling hot dog vapors. Prick skin tests were performed to various ingredients of the offending hot dog including chicken, pork, potato, and the aeroallergens.

Tinea imbricata is a chronic dermatophyte infection caused by Trichophyton concentricum affecting large areas of the skin surface. Spontaneous improvement is unusual and relapse after apparently successful treatment is common. A protein allergen extracted from the rough strain Brucella melitensis B 115, prepared for the diagnosis of Brucellosis, has been evaluated in cows. CASE: We present a 20-year-old man who suffered anaphylactic shock during posterior spinal fusion for neuromuscular scoliosis with the offending agent later identified via intradermal testing to be tranexamic acid (TXA).
CONCLUSION: TXA, although an increasingly common drug, can be the cause of sudden anaphylactic shock intraoperatively. This now represents the fifth reported case in the literature of patients ranging from 15 years to 80 years old with no previous exposure to the drug.

The incidence of dinitrophenylated cells in guinea pig lymphocytes incubated with 0-30 mM concentrations of DNBSO3Na in phosphate-buffered saline was examined by an immunofluorescence method using fluorescence-labelled anti-DNP antibody. Under our experimental conditions, the incidence was roughly proportional to the concentration used. Using DNP-lymphocytes as an antigen for skin testing, a marked delayed reaction was induced in guinea pigs sensitized by painting with DNCB and intradermal injection of Freund's complete adjuvant. The significance of these findings is discussed.
