INTRODUCTION: Furuncular myiasis is caused by the genus of botfly Dermatobia hominis. It belongs to the family Cuterebridae and is indigenous to Central and South America.
OBJECTIVE: to present a case report of the first case of this disease in Slovakia.
CURRENT STATE OF PROBLEM SOLUTION: The term myiasis refers to infestation of the host (animal, man) by botfly larvae. Its larvae burrow under the skin. They feed on the host's living tissues and fluids. MateriAl and methods: Patient's history analysis, parasitological examination.

Enterobius vermicularis may cause infections of the gastrointestinal tract and occurs approximately in 4% to 28% of children worldwide. Parasitic infestation is an uncommon cause of chronic pelvic pain among women of reproductive age. A case of chronic right-sided pelvic pain associated with appendiceal Enterobius vermicularis infestation was managed with appendectomy and antiparasitic therapy resulting in a complete resolution of symptoms.

We present a case believed to be the first reported North American presentation of Ascaris lumbricoides within the urogenital tract. A young man came to the emergency department because of painless hematuria and having observed a 6-inch worm exit his urethra while urinating. The most common site for A lumbricoides infection is the gastrointestinal tract, specifically the area of the hepatopancreatic ducts. An improved short-term in vitro culture system was used for the routine screening of hundreds of promising new compounds with the target organism, the filarial nematode Onchocerca volvulus. The most active leads were identified among the pyrimidinylguanidines, amidine derivatives, the imidazolinylhydrazones, thiosemicarbazone derivatives and thiadiazole derivatives. A follow-up study is reported of 18 children 4 y after treatment for the Trichuris dysentery syndrome (TDS) and matched control children. The TDS children were initially severely stunted and had extremely low developmental levels. They showed catch-up in height of 1.9 z-scores even though they remained in very poor environments. Adult Necator americanus infection in laboratory hamsters (the hamster-hookworm model) was examined as an anthelminthic screening system. Three reference anthelminthics--pyrantel (PYTL), mebendazole (MBZ) and ivermectin (IVRN)--were used to assess the sensitivity of adult N. americanus and also to investigate the value of the hamster-hookworm model for predicting clinical results. Flubendazole is an effective anthelmintic against both Trichuris trichiura and Ascaris lumbricoides. Single doses of 200 mg, 500 mg and 600 mg flubendazole, or two doses of 300 mg flubendazole on two consecutive days, effectively reduced egg output of both helminths by over 90%. Cure rates of 90.0 to 97.0% were obtained in Ascaris infections but only 17.3 to 65.1% of Trichuris infections were completely cured with the various single-dose or two-dose regimes. Flubendazole did not cause erratic migration of Ascaris in mixed infections at any of the dosages used.
