Real-world safety of PCSK9 inhibitors: A pharmacovigilance study based on spontaneous reports in FAERS.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate alirocumab- and evolocumab-related adverse events (AEs) in real-world compared with all other drugs, overall and by gender and age subgroups; we also aimed to compare their risks of cognitive impairment, musculoskeletal disorders and diabetes with various statins and ezetimibe. Methods: We retrospectively extracted AE reports from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database during July 2015-June 2021. Disproportionality analyses were performed using reporting odds ratios (RORs) to detect AE signals of alirocumab and evolocumab in the overall populati

Bone reporting and data system on CT (Bone-RADS-CT): a validation study by four readers on 328 cases from three local and two public databases.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the reproducibility and effectiveness of the bone reporting and data system on CT (Bone-RADS-CT) for incidental solitary bone lesions in adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively included 328 CT cases from three local and two public databases, respectively. All the cases were histopathologically or clinically confirmed bone lesions, "do not touch" lesions with typical appearance, and remained stable for at least 2 years. Each lesion with gender, age, and clinical history was categorized according to the Bone-RADS algorithm by two musculoskeletal radiologists and

Multimodal Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation in Clinical Practice: A Bibliometric and Altmetric Mapping Study (1989-2026).

Background: Multimodal rehabilitation represents standard practice in musculoskeletal care, where exercise therapy is routinely combined with manual therapy, electrotherapy, education, and cognitive-behavioral strategies. However, research has largely evaluated these modalities in isolation, and no bibliometric synthesis has characterized multimodal rehabilitation despite its predominance in routine practice. Objective: To characterize global research activity, thematic clusters, and diagnostic patterns underpinning multimodal musculoskeletal rehabilitation and to examine their alignment with

Chronic symptoms in construction workers treated for musculoskeletal injuries.

BACKGROUND: Soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries make up a high proportion of all work-related injuries in construction. Data from Workers' Compensation claims indicate that strains and sprains are the leading compensable injury for construction workers. This study describes the consequences of soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries for construction workers, and assesses the persistence of symptoms after an injury and the impact of that injury on return to work. METHODS: Through an Emergency Department surveillance system [Hunting et al., 1994a], we recorded 176 construction worker visits, from

Environmental Micro-Nanoplastics and Musculoskeletal Disorders: Current Research and Insights.

In recent years, micro-nanoplastics, as globally prevalent emerging environmental pollutants, can enter the human body through oral ingestion, respiratory inhalation, and dermal contact, and widely distribute in diverse tissues including blood, placenta, lung, bone marrow, and bone, thereby arousing widespread concern regarding their health risks. As an essential functional system of the human body, the skeletal system is involved in mechanical support, metabolic homeostasis, and immune regulation. Disruption of skeletal homeostasis may induce a series of musculoskeletal diseases, such as oste

Maintaining the balance: the critical role of plasmin activity in orthopedic surgery injury response.

The musculoskeletal system plays vital roles in the body, facilitating movement, protecting vital structures, and regulating hematopoiesis and mineral metabolism. Injuries to this system are common and can cause chronic pain, loss of range of motion, and disability. The acute phase response (APR) is a complex process necessary for surviving and repairing injured musculoskeletal tissue. To conceptualize the APR, it is useful to divide it into 2 distinct phases, survival and repair. During the survival-APR, a "damage matrix" primarily composed of fibrin, via thrombin activity, is produced to con…

Association of Musculoskeletal Injury, Subsequent Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, and Sex Differences Among U.S. Service Members.

INTRODUCTION: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and musculoskeletal injury (MSKI) negatively impact the health and readiness of U.S. service members. Women generally have higher rates of both injuries. While mTBI may increase the risk of subsequent MSKI, it is unclear if MSKI increases the risk of subsequent mTBI. We investigated whether MSKI is associated with increased risk of subsequent mTBI and if this relationship differs by sex among U.S. service members. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 776,822 US service members who enlisted from 2016 to 2020 and were followed throug

Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I in Children, a Forgotten Diagnosis Responsible for Undiagnosed Musculoskeletal Complaints: Report of Two Cases.

Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are a subgroup of lysosomal storage disorders. The underlying mechanism of MPS disorders are deficiency in specific enzymes which leads to accumulation of partially degraded glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in various tissues. A wide variety of manifestations are reported but musculoskeletal complaints are common among them. In milder forms of MPS, musculoskeletal complaints are presenting symptoms. Delays in diagnosis due to unspecific and mild symptoms is common. Misdiagnosis of MPS as juvenile idiopathic arthritis and other inflammatory arthritis disorders is frequent.

Potential of PET-MRI for imaging of non-oncologic musculoskeletal disease.

Early detection of musculoskeletal disease leads to improved therapies and patient outcomes, and would benefit greatly from imaging at the cellular and molecular level. As it becomes clear that assessment of multiple tissues and functional processes are often necessary to study the complex pathogenesis of musculoskeletal disorders, the role of multi-modality molecular imaging becomes increasingly important. New positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) systems offer to combine high-resolution MRI with simultaneous molecular information from PET to study the multifaceted
