From the perspective of psychiatric nursing, this discussion paper reconceptualises the role of psychiatric nurses in shared decision-making (SDM) in mental health care. INTRODUCTION: This integrative review aimed to understand the impact of nursing on the health outcomes of people with opioid use disorder (OUD).
METHODS: Whittemore and Knafl's (2005) integrative review methodology guided the review process. The authors searched PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and OVID databases for peer-reviewed, English language articles describing nursing care for people receiving medications for OUD. The literature search followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

BACKGROUND: Increasing numbers of people are dying from liver disease, which often develops asymptomatically. A FibroScan is a portable, non-invasive device that measures liver stiffness via transient elastography to identify fibrosis associated with liver disease. A FibroScan can be used by nurses in outreach settings to make access easier for people from inclusion health populations at high risk of liver disease. AIM: To investigate the effectiveness of a new community nursing model of care for clients with chronic leg ulcers in terms of levels of pain and ulcer healing.

More than a quarter of the adult population in the United States is afflicted with lower extremity venous insufficiency, and 1 in 100 have had, or now have, stasis ulcers. Most of these patients will be treated on an outpatient basis, with many of them requiring home health care. The cost to treat venous ulcers alone has been estimated at $750 million to $1 billion a year. Understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of the problem is imperative as home health care nurses move into an era of cost containment and demographic shift toward an increasingly larger elderly population.

The author conducted a survey of 210 nursing staff members in a community hospital to identify their attitudes and knowledge about organ and tissue donation. Results showed that 32% (n = 68) of respondents identified the significant difference between organ and tissue donors and 53% (n = 112) described feeling uncomfortable discussing donation with families. Fifty-seven percent (n = 120) of those who had been involved with donor families in the past were more likely to feel comfortable discussing donation with family members.
