Factors affecting the predictability of SRK II in patients with normal axial length undergoing phacoemulsification surgery.

INTRODUCTION: This study aims to evaluate the factors affecting the accuracy of biometry assessment using the SRK II formula in predicting the refractive outcome after uneventful cataract surgery by phacoemulsification for eyes within the normal range of axial lengths. METHODS: A retrospective review of 100 consecutive cases of uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery performed by two surgeons from January to September 2005 in a single centre was done. Eyes with axial length greater than or equal to 22.5 mm and less than 24.5 mm were included in the study. The error of prediction was calcula…

Phacoemulsification in isolated endogenous Candida albicans anterior uveitis with lens abscess in an intravenous methadone user.

We report the clinical course of a 31-year-old former intravenous drug user on methadone substitution therapy who injected methadone mixed with orange juice. She developed isolated metastatic Candida albicans anterior uveitis, which was treated with adequate systemic and local antifungal therapy. The uveitis regressed, but despite adequate local and systemic treatment, a lens abscess developed. Phacoemulsification and endocapsular intraocular lens implantation were performed, and the patient recovered 20/20 visual acuity in the affected eye. In patients with a history of injection drug use, pe…

Manual Marking Guidance vs Digital Guidance System-Assisted Capsulorhexis in Phacoemulsification: A Noninferiority Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Appropriately sized and well-centered capsulorhexis is key for high-quality phacoemulsification cataract surgery and can be achieved with digital-guidance devices. However, such devices are not readily available, warranting the need for a device-free manual auxiliary capsulorhexis technique. OBJECTIVES: To determine if manual marking-assisted capsulorhexis (MMAC) is noninferior to a digital guidance-assisted capsulorhexis (DGAC) in capsulorhexis accuracy following phacoemulsification for age-related cataract. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This noninferiority randomized clini…
