Challenging gender-based & obstetric violence: Medical students' evolving perspectives in OBGYN care.

OBJECTIVE: Medical students undergo professional socialization during clinical rotations, which shapes their perceptions and responses to patient care. Obstetric and gender-based violence are pervasive issues in obstetrics and gynecology, where hierarchical dynamics may normalize unethical practices. Our study aimed to explore the perceptions, observations, learning experiences, and beliefs of students regarding gender-based and obstetric violence during their obstetrics and gynecology rotation in Mexico. METHODS: We used a mixed-methods design, incorporating a pre- and post-rotation question

Communication in living donor kidney transplantation across Italian nephrology and transplant settings: a qualitative descriptive interview study with nephrologists and nurses.

BACKGROUND: Communication is central to living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT). Patients must understand treatment options, donor risks, family implications, and the possibility of pre-emptive transplantation. However, how LDKT communication is perceived and managed by nephrology and transplant professionals across care settings remains insufficiently explored. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive interview study was conducted with nephrologists and nurses involved in communication with patients who may be LDKT candidates. Participants were purposively sampled from Italian low- (1-50 proced

Development of a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning on delirium in nursing homes-a modified Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Health care professionals (HCPs) in nursing homes, such as nurses and general practitioners (GPs), indicate a need for delirium-specific education. However, establishing educational interventions in the nursing home setting is challenging. e-learning is one method of compensating for these difficulties. Therefore, this study aims to develop a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning to improve delirium-specific knowledge in HCPs in nursing homes. METHODS: Delirium-specific competencies were formulated on the basis of exploratory setting-independent literature. The competencies

Teacher knowledge and teacher identity in mathematics education: An interdependent model.

This article proposes an integrative theoretical model that articulates the interdependence between teacher professional knowledge and identity in mathematics education. An integrative theoretical synthesis of national and international approaches, it distinguishes the professional profile-defined by observable competencies and knowledge-from identity, which is constructed in a situated, dynamic, and reflective manner. The study draws on the MTSK model, Wenger's theory of communities of practice, and the identity framework by Van Zoest and Bohl. It incorporates recent contributions on professi

Lessons in professionalism: Ending the action gap. The Black doctors research committee and a White female martyr for civil rights - Part 2.

The US continues to lag in health outcomes and equity. In Part 1 of this review, we identified a persistent "Action Gap" as a failure of physician professionalism as defined in the Physician Charter on Medical Professionalism. Competency-Based Medical Education identifies professionalism as an opportunity to reconnect ethical foundations to medical training. Role models like internist Jean Cowsert, MD (1925-1967) and a 7-member Black "Medical Intelligence Group", illustrate how professionalism can transcend rhetoric and become action. Cowsert helped lead hospital desegregation during the imple

Incorporating sexual and reproductive health care in the medical curriculum in developing countries.

Medical educators have a responsibility to train physicians and other health professionals in the core competencies needed to improve the sexual and reproductive health of their communities. Yet sexual and reproductive health care is significantly under-represented in the basic educational curriculum for medical and other health professionals, as well as in continuing medical education and professional development programmes for practising physicians and other health professionals. The Commonwealth Medical Association Trust is developing a model curriculum on sexual and reproductive health tha

Development of entrustable professional activities for regional anesthesia and pain medicine fellowship training.

INTRODUCTION: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) offers descriptions of competencies and milestones but does not provide standardized assessments to track trainee competency. Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) and special assessments (SAs) are emerging methods to assess the level of competency obtained by regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine (RAAPM) fellows. METHODS: A panel of RAAPM physicians with experience in education and competency assessment and one medical student were recruited to participate in a modified Delphi method with iterative

Healthcare professionals' perceptions of decision-making for older patients with cancer receiving systemic therapy: A systematic review and qualitative evidence synthesis.

Decision-making about systemic therapy in older adults with cancer is complex due to frailty, clinical uncertainty, and competing treatment goals. Limited evidence exists synthesizing how healthcare professionals support decision-making in geriatric oncology. This qualitative systematic review searched four databases through November 2025 and conducted citation tracking. Thematic synthesis was performed, and confidence in findings was assessed using GRADE-CERQual (Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research). Twelve studies involving 212 healthcare professionals were includ
