A case report is presented in which an orthognathically compromised patient presented with a destructive periapical lesion that caused resorption of first and second molar roots and buccal and palatal cortical plates. The initial diagnosis and treatment were influenced by the absence of pre-existing dental records and an unrecountable dental history. Unusual endodontic management problems were encountered when copious intracoronal fluid, determined to be saliva, continually flowed through the open canals via a periodontal defect. The pathology report described the rare finding of large portion

In the light of these findings it is suggested that the basic principles should be accepted as (1) adequate debridement, (2) adequate obturation and (3) trephination where indicated.

Lumbar intraspinal synovial cysts (LISCs) are rare cause of the lumbosacral radicular syndrome. Fluoroscopy-guided percutaneous cyst rupture (PCR) is an option in the treatment. This report introduces long-term symptom relief after fluoroscopy-guided PCR of LISC. A 73-year-old patient presented with low back pain radiating to right leg. L5 radiculopathy was suspected by physical examination; however, an intraspinal cystic mass was visualized through imaging studies. The patient reported immediate pain relief after fluoroscopy-guided PCR, which sustained for one year. In conclusion, fluoroscopy

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of odontogenic cysts, tumors, and other lesions among reports in the archives of th … genic tumor was confirmed in 52 cases (10.9%). Regarding odontogenic cyst type, the most common was radicular cyst (216 cases), followed by dentigerous cyst (77 cases) and odontogenic keratocyst (23 cases). Among odontogenic tumors, the most frequent was odontoma (19 cases), followed by ossifying fibroma (18 cases) and ameloblastoma (9 cases). Giant cell granulo …

Pseudomeningocele is cerebrospinal fluid collection in an extradural area after meningeal tear. The size of the defect in the dura-arachnoid, the pressure of spinal fluid, and the resistance of the soft tissue presumably determine the size of the pseudocyst. The main symptoms are often: headache, neck pain and myelopathic and radicular signs. Pseudomeningocele is diagnosed by myelography, sonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. We present a case of intraoperative identification nerve root entrapment by pseudomeningocele cyst and postoperative recovery of a patient's ne

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to verify the density of mast cells (MCs) and microvessels in odontogenic cysts. Furthermore, the correlation between MCs and microvessels was evaluated to assess the contribution of MCs to angiogenesis and growth of odontogenic cysts. This approach may be a basis for the development of future pharmaceuticals addressed to MCs performance to manage odontogenic cysts. To our knowledge, no study investigating the correlation between MCs and microvessels has been performed to date.
METHODS: 60 cases of odontogenic cysts consisting of 20 radicular cysts (RCs), 20…

Sophisticated and newer imaging capabilities have resulted in increased reporting and treatment options of spinal lumbar synovial cysts (LSS). Most of the patients with lumbar cysts tend to be in their sixth decade of life with a slight female predominance. The incidence of LSS is thought to be less than 0.5% of the general symptomatic population. They may be asymptomatic and found incidentally or the epidural growth of cysts into the spinal canal can cause compression of neural structures and hence associated clinical symptoms. Most of the symptomatic LSS patients present with radicular pain

INTRODUCTION: Synovial cysts of the cervical spine are rare. These lesions have been associated with other spinal conditions as osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis, and disc degeneration, with authors postulating a possible link with segmental spinal instability. This study aims to describe an atypically presenting case of a cervical synovial cyst.
CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old man presented with complaints of cervical radicular pain (VAS of 7) that evolved with development of paresthesia and muscular weakness, compatible with C8 right compression. This symptomatology had an odd pattern with total

BACKGROUND: A total of 325 cases of inflammatory paradental cysts (IPCs) and 17 own cases were reviewed. Although known since 1930, the IPC is still unrecognized by many clinicians. The IPCs show a relative frequency of 0.9-4.7%. The majority of cysts occur distally or distobuccally to vital, permanent mandibular molars with a history of pericoronitis (IPC/3rd mandibular molar alone accounts for 64.9%). Radiologically, the cyst appears as a well-defined, semilunar unilocular radiolucency.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cases of inflammatory paradental cysts and related lesions were retrieved from a w

Odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) present an aggressive course with a marked tendency to recurrence. The epithelium of OKC is thought to have an intrinsic growth potential and has been shown to present a higher rate of proliferation as compared to other types of cyst. bcl-2 has a role in the extension of cell survival. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the bcl-2 protein expression in different odontogenic cysts. A total of 19 dentigerous cysts (DC), 20 radicular cysts (RC) and 14 OKC were used in the present study. DC and RC showed an almost complete negativity for bcl-2. OKC, on …

We report about two cases of accidental radiological discovery of a radiolucent area that seemed to be related to the apex of the teeth. The diagnosis of a cyst is contested by performing a sialographic study of the submaxillary salivary gland, which demonstrates a benign abnormality known as Stafne's lacuna.

Perineural cysts, also known as Tarlov cysts, are rare benign cerebrospinal fluid-filled cysts usually located at the junction of the posterior nerve root and the dorsal root ganglion and are usually asymptomatic. They are most commonly found in the sacral region and are uncommon in the cervical spine. Despite their rarity, symptomatic cases may present with neurological symptoms due to the compression of adjacent neurological structures. Symptomatic cervical perineural cysts are extremely rare, and there is limited consensus on management strategies. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman
