Application of decellularized human reticular allograft dermal matrix promotes rapid re-epithelialization in a diabetic murine excisional wound model.

BACKGROUND AIMS: The treatment and care of human wounds represent an enormous burden on the medical system and patients alike. Chronic or delayed healing wounds are characterized by the inability to form proper granulation tissue, followed by deficiencies in keratinocyte migration and wound re-epithelialization, leading to increased likelihood of infection and poor wound outcomes. Human reticular acellular dermal matrix (HR-ADM) is one type of tissue graft developed to enhance closure of delayed healing wounds that has demonstrated clinical utility through accelerating closure of lower extremi

Fabrication and characterization of microstructure-controllable COL-HA-PVA hydrogels for cartilage repair.

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel has gained interest in cartilage repair because of its highly swollen, porosity, and viscoelastic properties. However, PVA has some deficiencies, such as its poor biocompatibility and microstructure. This research aimed to design novel hydroxyapatite (HA)-collagen (COL)-PVA hydrogels. COL was added to improve cell biocompatibility, and the microstructure of the hydrogels was controlled by fused deposition modeling (FDM). The feasibility of the COL-HA-PVA hydrogels in cartilage repair was evaluated by in vitro and in vivo experiments. The scanning electron micro

Central control of autonomic function and involvement in neurodegenerative disorders.

The central autonomic network includes the insular cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, amygdala, hypothalamus, periaqueductal gray, parabrachial nucleus, nucleus of the solitary tract, ventrolateral reticular formation of the medulla, and medullary raphe. These areas: are reciprocally interconnected; receive converging visceral and somatosensory information; generate stimulus-specific patterns of autonomic, endocrine, and motor responses; and are regulated according to the behavioral state, including the sleep-wake cycle. Several components of the central autonomic networks are affected in neur…

Brain stem control of the phases of swallowing.

The phases of swallowing are controlled by central pattern-generating circuitry of the brain stem and peripheral reflexes. The oral, pharyng … uclei mediate the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing. The trigeminal nucleus and reticular formation probably contain the oral phase pattern-generating neural circuitry. The nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) probably contains the second-order sensory neurons as well as the pattern-generating circuitry of both the pharyngeal and esophageal phases of …

Mossy fiber projections from the brain stem to the nodulus in the cat. An experimental study comparing the nodulus, the uvula and the flocculus.

Mossy fiber projections from the brainstem to the nodulus were studied by means of the retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) … rojections to the ventral uvula. For the flocculus, in contrast, the major sources of input are the reticular formation and raphe nuclei. These quantitative differences may play an important role for differential functions of the nodulus, the ventral uvula and the flocculus.

Effects of brainstem lesions on the masseter inhibitory reflex. Functional mechanisms of reflex pathways.

The masseter inhibitory reflex (MIR) was investigated in 16 patients with localized brainstem lesions involving the trigeminal system. The M … pulses are conducted along bilateral interneuronal paths, which probably ascend through the lateral reticular formation, before connecting with the trigeminal motor nucleus on either side. Analysis of MIR recordings can be of particular value because brainstem inhibitory reflexes cannot be tested by clinical examination.

[The heterogeneity of the excitatory synaptic inputs in the spinal motor neurons of the frog Rana ridibunda].

The synaptic responses induced in motoneurones by the stimulations of the dorsal root (DR), single afferent fibres and reticular formation (RF) were intracellularly recorded in the isolated frog spinal cord. It was shown that argiopine (the selective blocker of glutamate receptors of non-NMDA type) in concentrations ranging from 3.10(-7) to 1.10(-5) M effectively suppressed the di- and polysynaptic, but not the monosynaptic components of EPSP's induced by DR stimulation. The initial reaction to argiopine consisted of the increase of this monosynaptic component of EPSP. In the same concentratio…

Comparison of the antinociceptive action of mu and delta opioid receptor ligands in the periaqueductal gray matter, medial and paramedial ventral medulla in the rat as studied by the microinjection technique.

In rats stereotaxically implanted with microinjection cannula in either the periaqueductal gray matter (PAG) or the medial/paramedial medullary reticular formation (MRF), microinjection of morphine, sufentanil, D-Ala2-D-Leu5-enkephalin (DADL) or D-Ser2-Thr6-leucine enkephalin (DSTLE) produced dose-dependent elevations in the response latency on tail-flick and hot plate tests. These effects were reversed by naloxone administered by microinjection into the same intracerebral site. Both mu (morphine and sufentanil) and delta (DADL and DSTLE) opioid receptor ligands produced a maximal elevation in…

Histochemistry of tissue reaction in skeletal muscles of cattle experimentally infected with Cysticercus bovis.

A close correlation between the intensity of tissue reaction in skeletal muscles and the localization of some enzymes in the bladder of C. bovis was demonstrated by histochemical methods. The most intensive tissue reaction was observed around the portion of bladder surrounding the opening of spiral canal, the tegument and subtegumental cells of which exhibit a high activity of alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase. Around this portion of bladder the tissue reaction is very strong, whereas around the remaining portion of the bladder, without any activity of these enzymes, the reaction is we

Fluorescence On-Off Response of Hydrogen-Bonded Viologen-Polyoxometalate Supramolecular Structure for the Determination of Ag+ in Beverages and Daily Necessities.

The remarkable sensitivity of viologen ligands to external stimuli leads to discoloration, which makes them suitable for visual detection. However, the photobleaching of the viologen ligand under prolonged light irradiation has always been a challenging issue. Herein, a novel viologen-polyoxometalate (POM)-based supramolecular compound, [(HMSBP)2(β-SiMo12O40)]·2H2O (V-POM) (MSBP = 1-(4-methanesulfonyl-benzyl)-[4,4']bipyridinyl-1-ium), is synthesized using a hydrothermal method. There are abundant hydrogen bonds in the units of V-POM, which facilitate the formation of a tightly packed two-dimen

Joubert syndrome: brain and spinal cord malformations in genotyped cases and implications for neurodevelopmental functions of primary cilia.

Medullary microvessel degeneration in multiple system atrophy.

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a rare and fatal early-onset autonomic disorder which is characterised by Parkinsonism and orthostatic hypotension (OH). The pathophysiology of MSA is not fully understood but key features include the depletion of medullary autonomic neurons and presence of glial cellular inclusions. We hypothesise that the degeneration of medullary autonomic microvessels is an additional finding in MSA. Using digital pathology we quantified basement membrane collagen (Coll IV), smooth muscle actin (alpha-actin) and endothelial glucose transporter (Glut 1) expression in medulla

Response properties of neurons in the rostroventromedial medulla of neuropathic rats: attempted modulation of responses by [1DMe]NPYF, a neuropeptide FF analogue.

We determined whether chronic neuropathy changes response properties of neurons in the rostroventromedial medulla of rats, and whether (d-Tyr)L(Me-Phe)QPQRF-amide, a neuropeptide FF analogue, in the periaqueductal gray produces changes in responses of rostroventromedial medullary neurons that might underlie its antiallodynic effect described earlier. Single unit recordings of medullary neurons were performed in lightly anesthetized neuropathic and control animals. Spontaneous activity and the responses to noxious thermal and mechanical stimulation of the hind paw were determined with and witho
