BACKGROUND: Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma (EES) arising from peripheral nerves is extremely rare with only 11 cases mentioned in the literature. It poses a diagnostic challenge to the clinicians due to its nonspecific presentation and rare occurrence.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 56-year-old woman came with a history of low back pain and intractable right leg pain. Physical examination revealed the normal motor power of both lower limbs with decreased sensation along the lateral aspect of the foot with decreased ankle reflex. There was no improvement with conservative management. It was a diagnostic chal

AIMS: To perform a clinicopathological analysis of a series of primary cutaneous Ewing sarcomas/primitive neuroectodermal tumours (ES/PNET) to highlight the pathological features, discuss the differential diagnosis, emphasise the role of molecular testing (particularly fluorescence in situ hybridisation, FISH) in diagnosis and outline the patients' clinical course.
METHODS: Seven cases of primary cutaneous ES/PNET were identified from the authors' consultation files.
RESULTS: The patients were aged 16-61 years (median 25). Five were female and two were male. Five cases involved the limbs and

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma of the adrenal gland with inferior vena cava (IVC) and right atrium thrombus is extremely rare. Here, we report a case of giant adrenal Ewing's sarcoma with IVC and right atrium tumor thrombus and summarize the anesthesia and perioperative management.
CASE SUMMARY: A young female was admitted to the Department of Urology with intermittent pain under the right costal arch for four months. Enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed a large retroperitoneal mass (22 cm in diameter), which may have originated from the right adrenal gland and was closely related to

Background: Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common primary malignant bone tumour in children. Depending on localisation and extent, massive bone defects remain when curative surgery is performed. Whereas in the past, limb amputation was often unavoidable to obtain curative resection, nowadays different limb saving reconstructive options are available.Case report: We report the successful reconstruction of a massive femur defect with a free vascularised fibular graft (FVFG) after Ewing's sarcoma resection in a four-year-old girl. Both the age of the patient and the extensive graft hypertroph

Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) is a highly malignant cancer in children, adolescents and young adults. The chemotherapy required to treat female EWS patients may cause primary ovarian insufficiency and infertility as a side effect. Cryopreservation of ovarian tissue before the start of chemotherapy can potentially preserve fertility. When the patient has been cured and primary ovarian insufficiency has developed, transplantation of frozen/thawed ovarian tissue can restore ovarian function. The tissue is usually collected before chemotherapy is initiated, and malignant cells may contaminate the stored o

Over the years, a wide clinicopathological spectrum has been identified within Ewing family of tumors (EFTs). As these tumors are chemosensitive, their correct and timely identification is necessary. The aims of this study were (1) to present the diverse clinicopathological and molecular profile of EFTs in our settings, (2) to identify a pragmatic approach for diagnosing EFTs, especially for application of ancillary techniques, namely RT-PCR for specific transcripts (EWS-FLI1, EWS-ERG) and FISH for EWSR1 gene rearrangement, in certain cases and (3) to show the utility of tissue microarray in e

PURPOSE: Osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma are high-grade neoplasms typically arising in the bones of children and adolescents. Despite improvement in therapy, the five-year survival rate is only 20% for patients not responding to treatment or presenting with metastases. Among new therapeutic strategies, the efficacy of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), a member of the TNF superfamily with strong antitumoral activity and minimal toxicity to most normal cells and tissues, was investigated by complementary approaches both in vitro and in preclinical models.

This study describes functional characteristics of receptors for vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) on human Ewing's sarcoma WE-68 cells. These characteristics include 125I-VIP binding capacity, cellular cAMP generation, glycogen hydrolysis, and pharmacological specificity. Binding studies with 125I-VIP showed specific, saturable, binding sites for VIP in WE-68 cells. Scatchard analysis revealed the presence of a single class of high-affinity binding sites that exhibited a dissociation constant (Kd) of 90 pM and a maximal binding capacity (Bmax) of 24 fmol/mg of protein. VIP and VIP-related p

The ultrastructural appearances of 7 primitive neuroepithelial tumours (PNETs) originating in soft tissues and bone are described. Three of the tumours represented primary soft tissue lesions, while locally recurrent tumour or pulmonary metastases were studied from the 4 skeletal tumours, all of which had been diagnosed previously as Ewing's sarcomas. Rosettes were present in one of the soft tissue lesions and although not seen in the primary skeletal neoplasms, they were identified by light microscopy (LM) in 2 of 3 pulmonary metastases, one of which had the morphology of a neuroepithelioma,

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a malignant osseous neoplasm characterized by a dismal prognosis, particularly in its metastatic variant. The significance of disulfidptosis-a newly identified cell death mechanism induced by cystine metabolic imbalance and mitochondrial dysfunction-has yet to be investigated in ES. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prognostic significance of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) in this disease.
METHODS: We analyzed four GEO datasets to examine nine DRGs through differential expression, co-expression networks, and functional enrichment analyses.

INTRODUCTION: Ewing's sarcomas is a rare primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) which has an annual incidence of 2.9 /million population in USA 1Jeffery Toretsky et al (2008) They are very uncommon in African and Asian population. It is commonly associated with reciprocal translocation between chromosome 11 and 12 t (11:12) or less frequently the t(21;22)(q22;ql 2) translocation. It is highly aggressive tumor which is PAS- and CD99 (MIC2)-positive relatively few variant translocations have been reported in primary Ewing's sarcomas (ES).

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma with morphological similarities to malignant melanoma (MM), but with a distinct genetic background that includes the chromosomal translocation t(12;22)(q13;q12). Clear cell sarcoma is often misdiagnosed as MM because of similarities in target locations and immunophenotypes. Eighteen cases with MM in non-cutaneous sites were subjected to fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to assess EWS gene breakage. Tissue microarrays were constructed using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue and the EWSR1 (22q12) dual-color, break-apart rearra

Precursor B-lymphoblastic lymphoma (B-LBL) may present as a solitary bone tumor. Fewer than 10 cases with a proven precursor B-cell phenotype have been reported in the English literature. In this report, we describe four cases of B-lymphoblastic lymphoma presenting as a localized intraosseous mass, which clinically and histologically mimicked Ewing's sarcoma. Three tumors occurred in the tibia and one in the humerus. In all four cases, the initial diagnosis was either "Ewing's sarcoma" or "consistent with Ewing's sarcoma." All four patients were female. Three were children and one was an adult

BackgroundEwing sarcoma is a rare primary mesenchymal tumor of the bone that requires an intensive multimodal therapeutic approach. Multidrug chemotherapy regimens are also the backbone for relapsing/recurring Ewing sarcoma treatment, yet when the disease relapses as bone marrow infiltration, combination chemotherapy might be difficult to administer and prognosis is poor.CaseThis report describes the case of a 22-year-old patient with Ewing sarcoma who developed severe pancytopenia due to bone marrow infiltration, and who was treated with high-dose continuous infusion ifosfamide, obtaining bot

PURPOSE: Ewing sarcoma (EwS) is the second most prevalent malignant bone tumour among juvenile patients. Due to its highly malignant character, itis crucial to identify patients with unfavourable courses as early as possible. In this context, integrated 18F-FDG-PET/MRI combines high-contrast morphological information with functional diffusion imaging and metabolic data and thereby provides ADC and SUVmax/SUVmean as established parameters for tumour cellularity and metabolic activity in a single examination. Therefore, our study evaluated the use of ADC and SUVmax/SUVmean as prognostic paramete

Ewing sarcoma and peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/pPNET) is an undifferentiated malignant tumor that is most prevalent in children and young adults and often radiologically mimics a meningioma. A 38-year-old female patient visited our hospital with complaints of right-sided tinnitus, right hemiparesis, and imbalance. She underwent preoperative imaging and was subsequently diagnosed as having a meningioma on the petrous ridge. After partial resection, EWSR1-FLI1 gene fusion was confirmed, and she was diagnosed with ES/pPNET. The tumor was successfully treated using a multidiscipl

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Bone sarcomas are important contributors to early-life cancer mortality and morbidity. Optimisation of treatment regimens has improved survival, but the survival disparity between children, adolescents and young adults has widened. Population-based studies are needed to understand and address these disparities. This is the first comprehensive study of early-life bone sarcomas in Denmark. Patient/material and methods: We combined population-wide data from national registers from 1990 to 2024 with clinical data from patient records. We calculated age-standardised incidenc
