Differences in Coping Strategies and Help-Seeking Behaviours among Australian Junior and Senior Doctors during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, hospital medical staff (HMS) have faced significant personal, workplace, and financial disruption. Many have experienced psychosocial burden, exceeding already concerning baseline levels. This study examines the types and predictors of coping strategies and help-seeking behaviours utilised by Australian junior and senior HMS during the first year of the pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey of Australian frontline healthcare workers was conducted between 27 August and 23 October 2020. Data collected included demographics, personal and

Acceptability and feasibility of self-help Cognitive Remediation Therapy for anorexia nervosa delivered in collaboration with carers: a qualitative preliminary evaluation study.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder without a recommended first-line treatment. Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) is showing great promise in helping patients reduce cognitive inflexibility and excessive detail focus, thinking styles that could make engaging in psychological therapies difficult. CRT has shown to be effective, feasible and acceptable in both individual and group formats, and positive qualitative data has been gathered from both service users and clinicians. The aim of the current study was to assess the use of CRT as a self-help treatment for individuals with AN deliv

Associated factors of barriers to help-seeking among postpartum women with and without (childbirth-related) posttraumatic stress disorder: results from the cross-sectional study INVITE.

BACKGROUND: Mental health disorders are widespread during the postpartum period, yet only a minority of affected women seek professional help for their symptoms. While prior studies have explored barriers to help-seeking, certain factors yielded inconsistent results. Our study aimed to investigate whether these factors do not serve as barriers themselves, but rather as predictors of barrier formation. Given the limited previous research on postpartum women affected by posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), we examined those affected by childbirth-related PTSD (CB-PTSD) and general PTSD (gPTSD).

[Kinderpsychodrama in a child guidance centre].

Kinderpsychodrama allows conflicts of children to become apparent in a specific sheltered environment. These conflicts often arise when children's needs for relationship, self esteem and self efficacy either are not sufficiently recognized by their caregivers and/or cannot be answered in a helpful way. This can lead to internalizing disorders like loss of self reliance, social fear, and depressive withdrawal on the one hand or to externalizing symptoms like oppositional, impulsive and aggressive behavior disorders on the other hand which endanger socio-emotional development. Kinderpsychodrama

Association of self-perception and perception gap in walking speed with frailty: The Otassha study.

OBJECTIVE: To examine associations among the self-perception of age-related walking-speed decline, perception gap (discrepancy between objective and subjective walking-speed assessments), and frailty in older adults. METHODS: We included 467 older adults (age: 74.7 ± 6.3 years; female: 62 %) who participated in the 2019 (T1) and 2020 (T2) comprehensive health-checkup surveys conducted among community-dwelling adults aged ≥ 65 years. As a subjective walking-speed assessment, participants rated their perception of walking-speed change at T2 compared to before (negative/positive). As an objectiv

Qualitative evaluation of the Teenage Mothers Project in Uganda: a community-based empowerment intervention for unmarried teenage mothers.

BACKGROUND: A large proportion of unmarried teenage mothers in Uganda face physical, psychological, and social problems after pregnancy and childbirth, such as obstetric complications, lack of education, and stigmatisation in their communities. The Teenage Mothers Project (TMP) in Eastern Uganda empowers unmarried teenage mothers to cope with the consequences of early pregnancy and motherhood. Since 2000, 1036 unmarried teenage mothers, their parents, and community leaders participated in economic and social empowerment interventions. The present study explored the changes resulting from the T

Factors associated with HCV antiviral treatment uptake among participants of a community-based HCV programme for marginalized patients.

While the majority of cases of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in developed countries occur among illicit drug users, HCV antiviral treatment uptake is poor in this population. Several studies have shown that patients can successfully be treated for HCV in the context of methadone maintenance programmes, but little evidence exists evaluating HCV treatment models for substance users where methadone maintenance is not indicated. This retrospective cohort study involved 129 persons participating in psycho-educational support groups and integrated, interprofessional, community-based health services focuse

Current treatment options in smoking cessation.

Cigarette smoking is the most important modifiable risk factor for premature mortality. Many common and serious diseases, including coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, stroke, and cancer, are strongly linked to cigarette smoking. Smoking cessation is difficult due to nicotine addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Comprehensive programs for tobacco control can substantially reduce the frequency of tobacco use. Physicians can improve screening and increase cessation rates by asking patients about tobacco use at every office visit. The spectrum of available smoking cessation i

Intervention to improve social and family support for caregivers of dependent patients: ICIAS study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Despite the existence of formal professional support services, informal support (mainly family members) continues to be the main source of eldercare, especially for those who are dependent or disabled. Professionals on the primary health care are the ideal choice to educate, provide psychological support, and help to mobilize social resources available to the informal caregiver.Controversy remains concerning the efficiency of multiple interventions, taking a holistic approach to both the patient and caregiver, and optimum utilization of the available community resources. .For this

Laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

Laparoscopy has meant profound changes for the field of bariatric surgery. Bariatric operations, which are technically difficult because of the patient population, were not performed laparoscopically until the last 5 years of the 20th century. The years 1998 to 2003, herein defined as the Bariatric Revolution, saw profound changes in the way bariartric surgery was practiced. Major changes in patient education, public awareness, patient enthusiasm, popularity of the surgery, and academic acceptance of bariatric surgery occurred during this time. This led to such a massive increase in procedures
