OBJECTIVE: Mid-urethral slings (MUS) become a standard, minimally invasive surgery to treat urinary stress incontinence. Our aim is to investigate the contribution of preoperative urodynamics to mid-urethral slings success and determine predictors for choosing mid-urethral sling route.
METHODS: Women with stress urinary incontinence and who desired surgical correction of their incontinence were included in the study. The selection of the procedure was according to an algorithm used in an institution. Urodynamic and baseline factors that may be associated with surgery failure were analyzed.

PURPOSE: Urodynamic studies are commonly performed as part of the preoperative work-up of patients undergoing surgery for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We aimed to assess the extent to which these urodynamic parameters influence patient selection and postoperative outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients presenting with SUI were randomly assigned to two groups: one undergoing office evaluation only and the other with a preoperative urodynamic work-up. Patients with unfavorable urodynamic parameters (detrusor overactivity [DO] and/or Valsalva leak point pressure [VLPP]<60 cm H2O and/or m

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Before the introduction of the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, the colposuspension operation was regarded as the "gold standard" procedure. The laparoscopic variant of the colposuspension was introduced as a less invasive operation. The aim of the present trial was to compare the new minimally invasive TVT procedure with laparoscopic mesh colposuspension (LCM).
METHODS: A multicenter randomized clinical trial conducted in six public hospitals in Finland including primary cases of stress incontinenc

PURPOSE: Few studies have characterized longer-term outcomes after retropubic and transobturator mid urethral slings.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Women completing 2-year participation in a randomized equivalence trial who had not undergone surgical re-treatment for stress urinary incontinence were invited to participate in a 5-year observational cohort. The primary outcome, treatment success, was defined as no re-treatment or self-reported stress incontinence symptoms. Secondary outcomes included urinary symptoms and quality of life, satisfaction, sexual function and adverse events.

The article presents the results of the treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women using a sling uretropexy by transobturator method--TVT-O procedure. From 2008 to 2011, 67 patients underwent TVT-O surgery for stress urinary incontinence. The average age of the pa-tients was 48.1 +/- 3.1 years. The examination included ICIQ-SF questionnaire survey, filling out the voiding diary, inspection of the external genitalia, perineum and urethra, cough test, cystography to assess the shape and location of the bladder, as well as measuring the posterior vesicourethral angle. For the evaluation of

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The aim of this study was to determine the long-term objective and subjective outcomes of the native tissue ultra-lateral anterior repair for cystocele.
METHODS: An observational study of patients from a single tertiary centre was carried out from January 1994 to December 2006. Patients who underwent an ultra-lateral anterior repair during this period were sent the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI) questionnaire and invited to return for a POP-Q examination. Symptoms of prolapse, stage of cystocele recurrence and reoperation rate were assessed at follow-up.

Midurethral tape placement is the gold standard procedure for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Among reported complications, tape erosion is uncommon. Several risk factors have been postulated as causes of vaginal erosion, but none have been demonstrated. Cases of vaginal erosion caused by tape infections have been described, but none has been associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. We report the first case of vaginal exposure in a woman who underwent a midurethral sling procedure for SUI after HPV colonization.

OBJECTIVE: Bladder injuries are quite rare and complex complications of transobturator tapes in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, with very few published cases. The authors present a case report and discuss possible injury mechanisms and the role of cystoscopy in this setting.
METHODS: A 51 year-old female with past surgical history of Burch colposuspension underwent an uneventful transobturator tape surgery. After 15 days, she complained of dysuria and frequency. Cystoscopy revealed the tape protruding within the bladder.
RESULTS: Reoperation was performed with the sub-ur

Urinary incontinence is one of the great challenges in geriatrics. The prevalence is high in elderly women and increases continuously with increasing age. The consequences of incontinence can be severe and are often associated with social isolation. Placement of a transobturatoric sling is a frequently used option in the surgical treatment of stress incontinence. Continence rates are high and associated with low side effects but several sub-analyses have shown poorer success rates and an increase in perioperative morbidity in women over 70 years. Recent studies, however, point to similarly goo
