Antibiotic susceptibility profile of bacterial isolates from post-surgical wounds of patients in tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar, Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Medicinal plants are widely used for healthcare needs, including oral health. In the Philippines, garlic, guava, tsaang-gubat, and hierba buena, although primarily recognized as plants used for the treatment of systemic diseases, are indicated as analgesics for dental pain, treatment of gingival inflammation, and oral health maintenance. Despite studies focusing on the effectiveness of these plants for oral health, there is little to no research on the populace's knowledge, attitude, and practices on these medicinal plants. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to determine the knowledge, a

"I Am Allowed to Cough Here": How Icon and Audience Characteristics Affect the Comprehension of Covid-19 Icons in the Netherlands and Flanders.

The COVID-19 pandemic challenged Dutch and Flemish municipalities to provide clear, understandable instructions about preventive measures. Each municipality designed its own icons to convey these preventive measures. We conducted two studies to examine both the characteristics of these icons and their comprehension by the public. First, a content analysis revealed a predominance of instructional over prohibitive icons, and many did not contain text. More concrete and dynamic icons were semantically closer to the intended message, while those with text tended to be visually complex. Second, we

The HL7 Clinical Document Architecture.

Many people know of Health Level 7 (HL7) as an organization that creates health care messaging standards. Health Level 7 is also developing standards for the representation of clinical documents (such as discharge summaries and progress notes). These document standards make up the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA). The HL7 CDA Framework, release 1.0, became an ANSI-approved HL7 standard in November 2000. This article presents the approach and objectives of the CDA, along with a technical overview of the standard. The CDA is a document markup standard that specifies the structure and sem

"Be more positive and more kind to your own bodies": Adolescent and young adult preferences for how parents can support their children with weight-related pressures.

Body dissatisfaction is a key factor contributing to the development of disordered eating, and body dissatisfaction is often influenced by media, peer, and parental pressures during adolescence. Little research has explored ways in which parents can help their children manage pressures from social media and their peers. The present study used the MyVoice National Poll of Youth, a large text-message cohort of young people (14-24 years old) in the United States, to collect and examine qualitative data about their experiences with parental weight-related communication and how they think parents c

Low-burden preventative digital mental health interventions for first-year college students: A pilot feasibility microrandomized trial.

INTRODUCTION: Mental health problems among college students have increased significantly and barriers to care contribute to a substantial treatment gap. Digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) show promise for overcoming barriers, but engagement with DMHIs is challenging, underscoring the need for low-burden strategies. OBJECTIVE: This pilot trial evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a six-week, low-burden, preventative DMHI that delivered supportive text messages and personalized feedback (PF) to first-semester college students. METHOD: Students (N = 120, 64% women, 55% non-Hi

The Longitudinal Reciprocal Relationships of Tooth Brushing Behaviors Between Underserved Children and Their Caregivers.

BACKGROUND: Tooth brushing is effective in preventing early childhood caries. However, it is unclear how children's and caregiver's tooth brushing are reciprocally related. PURPOSE: The current study investigated whether the longitudinal relationships between children and caregiver tooth brushing are moderated by a caregiver-targeted child oral health intervention and caregiver depression. METHODS: Secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that tested whether caregiver-targeted oral health text messages (OHT) outperformed child wellness text messages (CWT) on pediatric dental caries

Report from a text-based blood pressure monitoring prospective cohort trial among postpartum women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a main cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States and worldwide, and it is estimated that approximately 60% of maternal deaths in the United States occur during the postpartum period. The utilization of telehealth modalities such as home blood pressure monitoring has shown improvement in blood pressure control and adherence with follow up visits. Our study sought to determine if standardized education improved patient hypertension knowledge and if this when combined with home blood pressure telemonitoring increased partici

Improving Outcomes Among Young Adults with type 1 diabetes: The D1 Now Randomised Pilot Study Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Young adults (18-25 years old) living with type 1 diabetes mellitus often have sub-optimal glycaemic levels which can increase their risk of long term diabetes complications. Informed by health psychology theory and using a (public and patient involvement) young adult-centred approach, we have developed a complex intervention, entitled D1 Now, to improve outcomes in this target group. The D1 Now intervention includes three components; 1) a support-worker, 2) an interactive messaging system and 3) an agenda setting tool for use during clinic consultations. AIMS: The aim of the D1 N
