BACKGROUND: Thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF) and tuberculous infective spondylodiscitis rarely combine to cause paraplegia. Here, a 48-year-old female with both thoracic OLF and tuberculous spondylodiscitis experienced the acute onset of paraplegia successfully managed with a T8-L1 laminectomy with fusion.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 48-year-old female presented with the acute onset of paraplegia attributed to magnetic resonance-documented thoracic OLF and infective spondylodiscitis. Imaging revealed spinal cord compression (i.e., occupying >50% of the spinal canal) from D8 to D10

Pott's disease is a form of spondylodiscitis caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is a serious form of spinal infections that can lead to terrible disabilities in case of undiagnosed and treated early. To document a case of Pott's paraplegia cured after four years. This report details the case of a patient with an undiagnosed case of spinal tuberculosis in a 55-year-old man who had complained of lower back pain and tenderness over the course of several months. The case progressed to the point that he had difficulty standing and numbness, then weakness, of the lower limbs. This patient was

Gibbus deformities are characterized by anterior collapse of one or more vertebral bodies resulting in kyphosis. These deformities usually arise from spinal infections, and are traditionally associated with tuberculosis; other pathogens are rarely reported in the literature. In this case report, the authors describe a patient with a sharp, angulated Gibbus deformity presenting with back pain and myelopathy. The patient was placed on antibiotics, underwent T11-T12 corpectomy, placement of an expandable cage, and T8-L3 fusion with improvement of symptoms. Microbiology returned positive for non-t

We present a case of a 33-year-old woman who presented with phlyctenular conjunctivitis while on treatment for spinal intramedullary tuberculosis. She was treated with topical steroids along with continuation of antitubercular therapy, and improved on this treatment.

Disseminated spinal infections are characteristically demonstrated in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. However, we present a rare case of an elderly male with a disseminated Staphylococcus aureus infection, developing disseminated spinal infections with spondylodiscitis and right sacroiliitis with an associated right psoas and sacral collection. Moreover, secondary to the infection, the patient subsequently developed a large mycotic pseudoaneurysm of the right internal iliac artery. S. aureus is a virulent pathogen; however, haematogenous dissemination affecting multiple musculoskeletal

A 54-year-old woman was referred because of dizziness with fatigue for 2 months. MRI of the head and spinal cord revealed multiple ring or homogeneous enhancing nodules in the brain and spinal cord, concerning for metastases. FDG PET/CT showed multiple hypermetabolic nodules in the brain and spinal cord corresponding to the gadolinium-enhanced nodules and diffuse FDG uptake in the bilateral lower lobes of the lungs. Chest high-resolution CT showed diffuse, bilateral miliary opacities, most predominant in the lower lobes. The imaging findings and results of cerebrospinal fluid analysis were con

Tuberculous spondylitis (Pott's disease) is among the frequent extra-pulmonary presentations of tuberculosis (TB). The global incidence of lung adenocarcinoma is on the rise, and it is a rare differential diagnosis of miliary shadows on chest imaging. It has a predilection to metastasize to ribs and spine in particular. There is a very close clinical and radiological resemblance in the presentation of spinal metastasis of lung cancer and Potts's disease. It poses a diagnostic challenge to clinicians particularly in TB endemic areas to arrive at an accurate diagnosis, leading to disease progres

This case describes a woman in her 30s presenting with a 2 month history of thoracic pain, initially suspected to be costochondritis. The pain was unresponsive to conservative management, and imaging revealed a paravertebral mass at the T6-T7 level. The differential diagnosis included malignancy, sarcoma and tuberculosis (TB). A positive QuantiFERON-TB Gold test suggested TB exposure, before a biopsy subsequently confirmed spinal TB. She was started on quadruple anti-tuberculosis therapy and showed significant clinical improvement. This case emphasises the importance of considering TB in the d

Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) represents a spectrum of disease states resulting in hepatic venous outflow occlusion. Prothrombotic disorders, such as protein S deficiency may cause thrombosis of the portal and hepatic veins. We report the management of a 30-year-old BCS primigravida with protein S deficiency and destroyed lung by the pulmonary tuberculosis scheduled for Cesarean section. Moreover, patient's lungs were destroyed by the pulmonary tuberculosis. Spinal anesthesia was selected for the anesthetic management. The patient recovered without any complication and discharged from hospital on

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mid-term outcome of operation for thoracolumbar tuberculosis. METHODS : Twenty-eight patiens with thoracolumbar tuberculosis underwent one stage anterior debridement, interbody fusion with bone graft and posterior pedicle screw internal fixation treatment from July 2006 to July 2011. There were 17 males and 11 females. Total 17 patients had nerve injuries ,including 6 cases of grade B, 5 cases of grade C, 6 cases of grade D according to Frankel classification. The poisoning symptoms of tuberculosis and recovery of spinal function were observed. The bone fusion and
