Intravesical oxybutynin was instilled into rat bladders in graded doses by repeated catheterization to study the local bladder effects of drug concentration and incidental urinary infection. On the thirteenth day, after 5 doses, bladders were recovered for measurement and histological study. In the highest dose group, systemic absorption from the bladder caused weight loss and cachexia. However, in no group was there any clear evidence of drug-related mucosal or bladder wall change. An elderly woman was referred to hospital because of fever and deterioration of her general condition. Due to urinary retention, the woman had undergone long term catheterization and had a urinary infection for years. In addition, the partial right hip prosthesis was found to be dislocated. INTRODUCTION: Clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is often used for bladder emptying in children with lower urinary tract dysfunction. Until recently, the emphasis in assessing the effects of CIC has been on preserving kidney function, reducing urinary tract infection, and achieving urinary continence. Few studies have investigated the impact of CIC on students and families in a school setting. This study sought to examine what students and caregivers experienced when CIC was required during the school day and how schools adjusted to a student needing to perform it.

One of the rarest complications of bladder Foley catheter insertion is knotting of the catheter. We present a case of Foley entrapment secondary to formation of a true knot at the proximal end of the catheter in a 6-month-old female infant who was referred to our center for voiding cystourethrograthy. Sonography of the bladder revealed the knotted catheter in the urinary bladder.

We report on 15 women who underwent cystourethropexy for anatomical stress incontinence and who subsequently had dysfunctional voiding symptoms. All 15 women underwent retropubic takedown of the prior repair and substitution with an obturator shelf repair.
