BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (MRSAB) cause significant mortality, and often require extended antibiotic therapy. Vancomycin, the most common initial MRSAB treatment, carries significant monitoring burden and nephrotoxicity risks. OBJECTIVE: To review our clinical experience with intravenous (iv) lacosamide (LCM) in children less than 12 years old.
BACKGROUND: Use of LCM to treat children with epilepsy has been supported by multiple studies with limited information on iv use in children.
DESIGNS/METHODS: All children given iv LCM were identified from 2009 to 2015. Records were audited for demographics, seizure classification, etiology, EEG, imaging, indication. Baseline seizure frequency was based on parental reporting, continuous video EEG and direct observation.

We experienced a case of alachlor herbicide (Lasso) intoxication. A 57-year-old man was transported to our hospital by ambulance after ingesting 450 mL of Lasso. He was unconscious and had difficulty in breathing. Gastric lavage was performed after tracheal intubation and the patient was placed on mechanical ventilation. Activated charcoal and laxative were administrated. Even after admission, disturbance of consciousness persisted. He had liver and kidney disorders but these did not progress to multiple organ failure. He experienced convulsions from day 4 and was administered anticonvulsants.

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell disease is an inherited disorder of hemoglobin, resulting in abnormal red blood cells. These are rigid and may block blood vessels leading to acute painful crises and other complications.
