Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of the rib with metastases: A rare case report and literature review.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and aggressive malignant tumour predominantly found in the salivary glands but can also occur elsewhere. Primary ACC in the bones is particularly rare, with most reports focusing on cases of ACC in the maxilla and mandible. This report presents a case of ACC in a 47-year-old man with a primary origin in the right rib region, a previously unreported location. Its imaging manifestations and pathological features, as well as surgical treatment and follow-up, were described to increase awareness of this rare disease.

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, Clinical Presentation, Current Treatment and Approaches Towards Novel Therapies.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a rare cancer originating from secretory glands with unknown aetiology. It is one of the most dominant malignant salivary tumours (MST). However, it can arise in other areas of the head and neck region and in secretory glands outside this area. It occurs at all ages, but is more frequent between 50-70 years of age and more common in females than in males. The symptoms of AdCC are generally unspecific and the clinical diagnosis of AdCC maybe challenging, partially due to its heterogenous histopathology and indolent growth. Moreover, there is a lack of good pro

Tracheobronchial Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Treated Successfully With Chemoradiotherapy Followed by Durvalumab: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Tracheobronchial adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare type of malignancy. Although complete resection is standard treatment for localized ACC, treatment for unresectable ACC has not been established. It is unclear whether concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) followed by immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy is effective for ACC. CASE REPORT: A 49-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for the treatment of dyspnea and thickening of the bronchial wall from the tracheal carina to the left main bronchus, as observed on a CT scan. Systemic examinations and transbronchial

Association of adenoid hypertrophy and clinical parameters with preoperative polygraphy in pediatric patients undergoing adenoidectomy.

BACKGROUND: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy is the most frequent cause for obstructive sleep apnea (OSAS) in children. In patients with small tonsils and where adenoid size cannot be assessed, the indication for adenoidectomy often relies on clinical symptoms. However, data on the association of clinical parameters and adenoid hypertrophy with OSAS severity in children undergoing an adenoidectomy is sparse. AIM: To investigate the correlation of patient characteristics, adenoid hypertrophy, and clinical symptoms with OSAS severity in pediatric patients indicated for an adenoidectomy. METHODS: We

Unusual presentation of breast adenoid cystic carcinoma resembling adenomyoepithelioma with multiple distinct foci.

We describe an unusual case of multifocal breast adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) with adenomyoepitheliomatous morphology. Most breast AdCCs are unifocal and only four cases of multifocal AdCC have been reported previously, however, to our best knowledge, multifocality in AdCC confirmed by molecular analysis has not been reported, so this report adds to the literature on this unique presentation. An 80-year-old woman presented with a left breast mass at 1 o'clock and non-mass enhancement lesion at 5 o'clock on imaging. Incisional biopsy at 1 o'clock showed AdCC based on histopathological featur

Identification of MicroRNA Expression Profiles Related to the Aggressiveness of Salivary Gland Adenoid Cystic Carcinomas.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) has been reported as the second most common carcinoma of the salivary glands. Few studies have associated miRNA expression with ACC aggressiveness. In this study, we evaluated the miRNA profile of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples of salivary gland ACC patients using the NanoString platform. We studied the miRNA expression levels associated with the solid growth pattern, the more aggressive histologic feature of ACCs, compared with the tubular and cribriform growth patterns. Moreover, the perineural invasion status, a common clinicopathological fea

Extracting Potential New Targets for Treatment of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma using Bioinformatic Methods.

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a slow-growing malignancy that most often occurs in the salivary glands. Currently, no FDA-approved therapeutic target or diagnostic biomarker has been identified for this cancer. The aim of this study was to find new therapeutic and diagnostic targets using bioinformatics methods. METHODS: We extracted the gene expression information from two GEO datasets (including GSE59701 and GSE88804). Different expression genes between adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and normal samples were extracted using R software. The biochemical pathways involved in ACC were o

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of Bartholin's gland, a case report with genomic data and literature review.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin's gland (ACCBG) is a rare, slowly but aggressive malignancy. We reported the case of a 31-year-old woman who was treated by local excision and then hemi-vulvectomy, with positive margins and perineural invasion. Radiation therapy (RT) was then performed delivering 45Gy in 25 fractions in bilateral inguinal lymph nodes and 64.8Gy in 36 fractions on the vulvar area. After 30 months, there was no local relapse (LR) but the patient presented a histologically documented lung recurrence. Genomic profiling of the tumor showed a MYB-NFIB fusion transcript and

The combination of nasal steroids and anti-leukotriene to reduce adenectomy in children with OSA and adenoid hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 1% to 5% of all children, with the most significant prevalence between ages 2 and 8. Correlations between OSA and Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) have been well-demonstrated in children. If untreated, OSA can cause growth impairment, neuro-cognitive and behavioral problems, and cardiovascular complications. Allergy was reported to be a vital risk factor for AH, among other inflammatory processes mentioned. OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate that the combination of nasal steroids and ani leukotriene reduces the number of adenectomies in children with OSA and

A rare case report of adenoid cystic carcinoma of parotid gland with perivascular and perineural spread.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a slow growing malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands, mainly occurring in minor salivary glands and relatively rare in parotid glands. It has got a remarkable capacity for extensive subclinical spread to the adjacent structures. Here, we present a case report of adenoid cystic carcinoma of parotid gland with perineural and perivascular spread. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of adenoid cystic carcinoma of parotid gland with perivascular spread along a major artery (ECA) and perineural spread along two different nerves (mandibular nerve and faci

Altered polymerase theta expression promotes chromosomal instability in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Genomic instability (GIN) plays a key role in cancer progression. The disorders of polymerase theta (POLQ) were reported to contribute to GIN and progression in many cancers. Here, we found that POLQ over-expression was related to salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) progression and poor prognosis. Then, we investigated the role and mechanism of POLQ in the GIN in SACC. GIN was assessed by chromosome staining with DAPI and Giemsa, as well as qRT-PCR of the mitosis-related gene expression. Meanwhile, PCR-SSCP was used to evaluate microsatellite instability. Modulation of POLQ expression inc
