PURPOSE: To review the presentation and course of choroidal blastomycosis, a rare chorioretinal mycotic infection, which results from disseminated blastomycosis.

Soluble yeast-phase (YPS) antigen preparations (Reeves et al., 1972) were obtained from three strains of Histoplasma capsulatum. DESIGN: Retrospective review of blastomycosis cases in the region from 1980 through 1995.
SETTING: Hospitals located in the Tri-Cities region of northeast Tennessee.
PATIENTS: Seventy-two patients with confirmed blastomycosis infection.

Blastomycosis is a rare fungal infection that most often initially infects the lungs and can progress to disseminated involvement of the skin, bones, and central nervous system (CNS). Pediatric blastomycosis constitutes a small portion of total cases, but delay in diagnosis may result in significant morbidity.
