Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding appears to be uncommon in patients with parasites. In spite of that some reports had described this relationship in patients evaluated during capsule endoscopy procedures; the characteristic of the bleeding lesions remains unclear. This paper describes two patients with a massive obscure gastrointestinal bleeding due to ascariasis, using the new capsule endoscopy technology "MiroCam", describing the characteristic of the lesions found in our patients (observed in a better image quality), and reviewing the literature.

Inflammatory fibroid polyps (IPF), also called Vanek tumors, are rare, benign lesions of mesenchymal origin. They can affect both sexes with a majority incidence between 50-70 years. We present the case of a 53-year-old woman with an outpatient clinic due to severe iron deficiency anemia, gastroscopy and colonoscopy without relevant findings. A study with capsule endoscopy identify an ulcerated polypoid mass, which caused a slight stenosis of the lumen, allowing the passage of the capsule endoscopy compatible with Vanek's tumor.

For ten years, a lot of advances have been achieved for the morphological exploration of the small intestine as well as with CT and MR enterography than with wireless capsule endoscopy. These investigations have renewed the approaches of different diseases that can affect the small intestine: tumors, especially sub-mucosal tumors (CT enterography), iron-deficiency anemia (capsule endoscopy) and follow-up of patients with Crohn's disease of the small intestine (MR enterography). Balloon enteroscopy may then allow therapeutic approach when needed (treatment of bleeding angiodysplasia).

Eighty-six patients with duodenal ulcer were treated in a multicentre controlled trial with carbenoxolone capsules (Duogastrone, 50 mg four times a day for six weeks) or a placebo. Sixty-nine patients accepted endoscopy at the beginning and end of the treatment.
