Hypercalcemia (12.0 to 18.3 mg/dl) was detected in 3 cats that had eaten a rodenticide that contained cholecalciferol. Clinical signs included lethargy, anorexia, vomiting, and polydipsia. Treatment with furosemide and fluids administered IV resulted in normalization of the serum calcium concentration and in remission of the clinical signs in 2 cats. One cat with a serum calcium concentration of 18.3 mg/dl did not have clinical signs, was not treated, and was reportedly normal 9 months after initial examination. The purpose of this experiment was to study the possible role of the gastric antrum and small bowel in the rhythm(s) of plasma gastrin. The cat was used as the laboratory animal. Three groups of cats were provided with a gastric fistula for the study of gastric acid and plasma gastrin rhythms. The first group (N = 7) served as controls. 22 primary intraocular malignant melanomas in the dog and 5 in the cat were classified histologically. Pigmented epithelioid cells and mixed cell type melanomas with high reticulin fiber content and areas of necrosis were associated with the highest mortality rate. The time course of humoral immune response to Paragonimus siamensis was studied in 10 cats experimentally infected with either 30 or 60 matacercariae and the antibody produced was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), complement fixation test (CFT), and immunoelectrophoresis (IEP) test.
