OBJECTIVE: The Adverse Childhood Experiences study suggests childhood adversity is a "root" origin for health and human development. Newer research is examining the more immediate impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on child development and the impact of neighborhood environment on the likelihood of and prevention ACEs. The extent to which all of these aspects of the child context fit together remains unclear. The current study seeks to fill this gap examining the precursors for ACEs and the multitude of ways in which a child's home life can impact his or her development.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between fecal incontinence (FI), child abuse, somatization, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adolescents.

In recent years, reports of institutional abuse within the Catholic Church have emerged and research on the consequences on mental health is in its beginnings. In this study, we report findings on current mental health and resilience in a sample of adult survivors of institutional abuse (N = 185). We compared 3 groups of survivors that differed regarding their current mental health to investigate aspects of resilience, coping, and disclosure. As the literature on implementation research continues to expand, it's important to address the unique aspects and challenges of research dissemination and implementation in maternal/child health settings. This article describes a nurse-initiated evidence-based practice (EBP) study on urinary catheterization at a labor and delivery unit in the southwestern United States. It describes successful strategies for implementing EBP, as well as barriers encountered, and provides recommendations for the facilitation of EBP in the maternal/child inpatient setting.

METHODS: We modeled the effect of variation in performance of the multiple steps of different prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) protocols using hypothetical and reported data.
